FORMER New York Times journalist Alex Berenson has been permanently booted off Twitter for peddling claims that Covid jabs don't stop infection on the platform.
The 48-year-old author has repeatedly criticized lockdowns and coronavirus mandates, and has now been removed from the social media network for good – but has doubled down on his accusations.
Twitter bosses removed Berenson after he wrote in a tweet: "It doesn't stop infection. Or transmission. Don't think of it as a vaccine.
"Think of it- at best – as a therapeutic with a limited window of efficiency and terrible side effect profile that must be dosed IN ADVANCE OF ILLNESS.
"And we want to mandate it? Insanity."
Shared a screenshot of the tweet on his Substack page, Berenson – who worked for the NYT from 1999 to 2010 – posted a brief message titled "Goodbye Twitter" as he defended his claims.
"This was the tweet that did it," he wrote.
"Entirely accurate. I can’t wait to hear what a jury will make of this."
Twitter confirmed that Berenson's account has been taken down for "repeated violations".
"The account you referenced has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation rules," a spokesperson said.
Berenson has long spoken out against Covid rules and regulations, claiming the pandemic had brought "a new age of censorship and suppression" in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal in December.
"Information has never been more plentiful or easier to distribute," he wrote.
"Yet we are sliding into a new age of censorship and suppression, encouraged by technology giants and traditional media companies.
"As someone who’s been falsely characterized as a coronavirus “denier,” I have seen this crisis firsthand."
The CDC has continually reassured that Covid jabs are "safe and effective", with more than 363 million doses given in the US so far.
