Veer Mahaan on waiting months for Raw return and strange interview segment

Veer Mahaan says he had no problem waiting months for his WWE Raw debut, insisting it only fuelled his hunger to perform on the show.

The towering Mahaan made a devastating comeback on WWE’s flagship show in April, pummelling Rey Mysterio and son Dominik in a brutal attack.

It was an appearance that got people talking – not least because the company had teased the appearance for months beforehand.

Having previously wrestled in NXT and on Raw as Veer, the Indian sensation all-but vanished from the red brand before vignettes promising that ‘Veer Mahaan Is Coming’ began to air.

Those ran sporadically between November last year and when he eventually reappeared some six months later.

In the lengthy interim there was intrigue, fascination and even ridicule from fans who wondered if WWE would ever let the star loose.

Speaking to Daily Star, Mahaan has insisted the mammoth delay was something he took in his stride, insisting major frustration never really got the better of him.

He explained: "At the end of the day, I'm human as well. I waited and, at times, it can be frustrating when you want something and you don't get it.

"But for me, all the frustration and waiting went towards my work. I would watch clips of all the other Superstars and educating myself on what they are all about.

"But I never let that bother me. I just let it motivate me even more because this isn't my first ride, coming from track and field, to baseball, to coming here.

"Everything I have been through in my life, and my struggles, has prepared me for better things.

"It gets me here and there but it never really bothered me. It made me stronger."

One theory rumoured as to just why the promos ran for so long without any outcome was that it had been planned to happen well in advance April before plans were shelved and his return put on ice.

The man himself says it was never the case, adding: "No, there was nothing.

"It was just like the fans. They were waiting, they didn't know anything and I didn't know anything.

"What I did different was to keep working. I worked on the many things of my physique that I wanted to improve over the years.

"That specific time made me a better athlete if I'm honest with you. Since I came to WWE, it has made me a better competitor and athlete, and made me more disciplined than I ever was before."

After another brief absence over the last few weeks, Mahaan was back on Raw this past week in a bizarre segment that saw him spook backstage interviewer Sarah Schreiber.

Quite whether the dominant, monstrous persona of Mahaan will now give way to something a little more comedic and character-driven remains to be seen – but he’s happy enough to be turning his hand at whatever comes along.

“Why say so much when you can get it done saying so little, right?” he went on to say, having loomed over Schreiber before saying 'Boo!' and making an exit.

"If that works, what else do we need? The reaction and support has been great [and] has created a buzz around the world.

"The world hasn't seen my other side yet. Yes, we're trying to show the world that Veer Mahaan isn't just a scary guy that walks around in the ring.

"We're trying to show our audience that Veer Mahaan is not just a beast and an angry man, he has other sides.

"That's why the world has got to tune in more to see what's going to happen next!"

Veer Mahaan and the stars of WWE Raw are in action each Monday night, with the show airing in the UK on BT Sport. Visit wwe.com for more.
