Jackson was married to Lindsey VanDeweghe.

Jackson proposed to his wife, who is a Colorado native, after being inducted to the UNC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

The three-time Pro Bowler stepped on stage and declared to his then-girlfriend “I love you. I will always love you. I want to start a family with you. I want to spend the rest of my days with you. You are my soulmate. Will you marry me?”

The couple tied the knot on July 16, 2011.

Jackson and his wife resided in a $3.5 million mansion located in the Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, according to Journalistate.

Jackson and VanDeweghe had three children together: Carter, Amaya, and Dominick, as reported by the Greeley Tribune.

Although he was private about his personal life, he occasionally posted on his Instagram about his children.

He posted a photo of himself and his little one on Father's Day on June 21, 2020.

"'It’s the courage to raise a child that makes you a father.' — Barack Obama," he wrote.

What was Vincent Jackson’s cause of death?

Jackson was found dead on Monday, February 15, at the Homewood Suites in Palm River Road, Brandon.

According to hotel staff, Jackson, who is a South Tampa resident, checked into the hotel on January 11 and had been staying in a room since that date.

An autopsy confirmed Jackson died from severe alcohol abuse on December 22, 2021, according to TMZ, a

Jackson's wife Lindsey said that he was suffering from memory loss and mood swings before his death, and a brain scan indicated he had stage 2 CTE.

The phrase "chronic traumatic encephalopathy," or CTE, refers to "brain degeneration caused by repeated head traumas."

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook that it is investigating the death of Jackson, but that there are "no apparent signs of trauma."

"HCSO has notified Jackson’s next of kin of his passing."

The 38-year-old wide receiver played for the Bucs from 2012-2016.

Before his career with Tampa, he played for the San Diego Chargers from 2005-2011.

In college, Jackson played for the Northern Colorado Bears football team for the University of Northern Colorado.

He rewrote the record books in becoming Northern Colorado's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards,  kick return yards, punt return yards, receiving touchdowns.
