Woman has her ‘first child at age 70’ and becomes one of world’s oldest mums

A woman who claims to be 70 years old has welcomed her first baby, becoming one of the world’s oldest mums.

Jivunben Rabari, and her husband Maldhari, 75, from India, have been married for 45 years and have been trying to have a baby for a “long time”.

The couple who are from a small village called Mora, in the state of Gujurat, welcomed their son earlier this month.

Jivunben said she does not have any ID to prove her age but told reporters that she is 70.

Dr Naresh Bhanushali said: "When they first came to us, we told them that they could not have a child at such an old age, but they insisted. They said that many of their family members did it as well.

"This is one of the rarest cases I have ever seen."

The oldest woman in the world to give birth is believed to be another Indian, 74-year old Mangayamma Yaramati, when she welcomed her twins through IVF in September 2019.

Their dad was reported to be 82 but passed away earlier this year at the age of 84, leaving Yaramati to raise the two girls alone.

The UK’s oldest mum is believed to be 66-year-old Elizabeth Adeney, who gave birth to her son in 2009.

Adeney conceived the child through IVF in Ukraine after doctors refused to carry out the procedure here because she was over 50.
