An Oregon woman who was kidnapped by a man accused of killing three people, including his father, convinced the suspect to surrender as she was forced to drive him 2,000 miles to Milwaukee, relatives and authorities said Sunday.
Oen Nicholson, 30, will be extradited back to Oregon where he faces three murder charges for the deadly rampage that began Friday when he allegedly killed his father, Charles Nicholson, at an RV campground in the coastal city of North Bend, police said.
Nicholson is also accused of using his father’s pickup truck to fatally mow down Anthony Oyster, 74, at the same campground. The elderly man’s wife, Linda Oyster, 73, was also struck and critically injured, authorities said.
Later that day, the suspect allegedly gunned down Jennifer Davidson at a marijuana dispensary in North Bend, according to Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier.
After the killings, police said an armed Nicholson kidnapped Laura Johnson, 34, who was inside her car during her lunch break in a Springfield, Oregon, parking lot.
Johnson’s father, Dennis Johnson, told KEZI-TV that his daughter was able to convince the triple homicide suspect to surrender to police — after he drove her to the midwest.
“He approached her in her vehicle with a gun,” the father said. “They said she was forced to drive 33 hours to where they’re at. She was able to talk him into turning himself in.”
Police said the woman was unharmed and by Sunday was en route back to Oregon.
Nicholson is also facing charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and failing help a person injured in a traffic accident.
