A woman hand-mailed hundreds of pornographic Easter eggs and stuffed hidden messages inside because she wanted to educate people about religion.

Abril Cestoni, who was 42 at the time, took the odd approach to educate a neighbourhood by placing X-rated images in plastic eggs.

Residents in Flagler County, Florida, were left stunned when they opened up their mailboxes to find the bizarre gift which also included fish-shaped crackers.

She was arrested on Thursday, April 9, 2020, after her risqué spree caused upset in the area after she delivered around 400 eggs.

Cestoni later confessed that she had made the porn on a computer programme, reports ClickOrlando.com.

She told deputies that she had left messages inside the treats because she wanted people to understand the need for churches.

The arrest report read: “Abril stated she was ‘a church’ and had a business license.

"Abril said she was conducting research on local clergy and people deserved to know the truth.

“She certainly has a bizarre almost zealous opinion of churches and what they should believe in and how they should teach the teachings of the bible,” Sheriff Rick Staly commented.

Body camera footage shows Cestoni addressing her crime and stating that she was not a fanatic.

Staly added: “Our team did a great job in tracking this deranged offender down and taking her into custody.

“Thankfully she did not appear to be sick with COVID-19 symptoms, but she certainly needs some help.

“In my career, it’s a pretty bizarre case."

The eggs also contained a sheet of toilet paper and a powdered drink mix, police said.

One resident told publication Oxygen: "[ It was] horrifying group sex stuff."

“It was disgusting. Our concern is we have five children under the age of 10 that check the mail.”

The 42-year-old was charged with violating a statewide stay-at-home order issued by the Government in response to Covid-19.

She was also charged with at least 11 counts of distributing obscene material.
