Woman shot dead in Christmas Eve pub attack named as 26-year-old beautician

    A woman shot dead in a Christmas Eve pub shooting has been named as beautician Elle Edwards, 26.

    Police attended the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey Village, Merseyside, after receiving reports of gunshots just after 11:50 pm on Christmas Eve (December 24) and have since launched a murder probe.

    The 26-year-old woman, was the police confirmed was “not” a specific target of the shooter, was taken to hospital with bullet wounds following the incident but was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

    Her next of kin have been informed and are receiving support, Merseyside Police confirmed.

    Ms Edwards, a makeup artist, is understood to have been at the pub with her sister and friends when the shooting took place.

    Her workplace, Nova Hair and Beauty in the Wirral, said in an Instagram statement: "Heaven gained the most beautiful angel… we are all heartbroken, thinking of all of your family right now Elle.

    "Thank you for all of the laughs and happiness you brought into our lives, rest in paradise angel, love from your team at Nova."

    Britt Hughes, a colleague of Ms Edwards, said the pair had enjoyed "so many amazing memories this summer."

    "Who am I gonna be in fits of laughter with on voice notes terrorising the world?"

    Another friend of Ms Edwards, Tyreece Hon, wrote a touching post on Facebook asking her to "shine bright".

    He said: "My heart goes out to your family who took me in as a son love you loads. Shine bright you crazy diamond."

    Three men were also injured and are being treated for their wounds in hospital.

    Detectives said the pub was busy and full of "young people" when the gunman opened fire, and the assailant is thought to have taken off in a dark-coloured car, possibly a Mercedes, following the incident.

    Wallasey MP Dame Angela Eagle has appealed for anyone with information on the fatal shooting to contact police.

    She tweeted: “This is heartbreaking news – My thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died & those who are injured. Anyone with any information please tell the police.”

    Detective Superintendent Dave McCaughrean of Merseyside Police said: “This investigation is in the very early stages and we understand that this is a truly shocking and devastating incident that has happened just before Christmas Day in a busy venue full of young people.

    “We have a number of officers at Wallasey Village who are carrying out extensive enquiries to understand exactly what has taken place and take immediate action."

    Meanwhile, the pub issued a statement saying: "Last night there was a tragedy beyond words in our pub’s car park. All our thoughts are with the friends and family of our customers and in particular our hearts go out to the family of our customer who has lost her life.

    "We have provided the police with CCTV footage and our priority is supporting everyone who has been impacted. Take care everyone and please look after each other."

    Neighbours also heard the incident and described it as "shocking".
