A$AP Rocky pleads not guilty to two counts of assault with a firearm in LA court

A$AP Rocky has pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault with a firearm, following an incident in Los Angeles last November.

The incident took place on November 6, 2021, when his girlfriend, pop-sensation Rihanna, was four months pregnant with their first child. He was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident in April 2022.

The US rapper, real name Rakim Mayers, who recently welcomed his first child with Rihanna, appeared in person in an LA court on Wednesday, 17 August, to enter the pleas.

He was dressed in a dark suit, glasses and wore a black face mask and spoke only to confirm his name and acknowledge his rights.

During the incident, Rocky, 33, is alleged to have pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the victim, identified as fellow rapper A$AP Relli, before allegedly firing it in his direction in a subsequent confrontation.

Relli, real name Terell Ephron, is a former friend of Rocky, but filed a lawsuit against him last week.

In legal documents obtained by the PA news agency, lawyers for Relli said Mayer’s conduct had been “extreme and outrageous” and had caused their client to suffer “extreme emotional distress”.

Relli has requested damages of $25,000 (£20,600) over the incident, plus additional damages to cover his medical bills.

Judge Victoria B Wilson handed Rocky a restraining order, which states he must stay 100 yards away from Relli at all times and set a preliminary trial date of 2 November.

Rocky’s bail has been set at $550,000 (£456,500), which he has paid.

According to the DA, during a heated discussion in Hollywood on 6 November, 2021, Rocky allegedly pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the victim.

Rocky is accused of approaching Relli on the street at around 10.15pm. He is then alleged to have fired a handgun at him three or four times.

Relli’s legal team told Rolling Stone: “After arriving at the location, a conversation ensued whereby without provocation, warning, or any justification, A$AP Rocky produced the handgun and intentionally fired multiple shots at Mr. Ephron.”

One of the bullets reportedly grazed Relli's left hand and he later sought medical treatment for his injuries.

After the incident Rocky and two other men, who were reportedly present, fled the scene.
