Adele in flood of tears as she’s surprised by former English teacher

Adele's dazzling Audience With aired on Sunday 21 November, attended by a whole host of famous faces, from Idris Elba to Dua Lipa.

The sensational concert served up some very iconic moments as the 33 year old chart-topper belted out songs from her new album, 30, as well as some of her classics.

And one moment brought tears to the eyes of the audience and to Adele as the beautiful star was surprised by her old school teacher.

When asked by Dame Emma Thompson who had inspired her when she was young, the name of her teacher immediately came to her lips.

The singer spoke warmly and movingly about her teacher who had taught her at Chestnut Grove School in Balham, South London.

Adele said: “She left in year eight but she got me really into literature, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics.

"But she also did street dance, I was too scared to go in, but like in the canteen they used to do these dances and stuff like that.

“She was so bloody cool, so engaging, and she really made us care, and we knew that she cared about us and stuff like that.

"She used to have all these gold bracelets and gold rings. She was bloody cool and so relatable and likeable, that I really looked forward to my English lessons.”

Ms McDonald was then invited on stage, much to the surprise of Adele who instantly broke down in tears.

Adele and Ms McDonald embraced as she got up on stage, and Adele asked if she was still teaching.

"Im so proud of you. I'm not teaching anymore, I’m just looking after my family," she told the singer.

Adele told her she "looked the same," and waved as her teacher's children stood up.

The incredibly touching moment led to Adele to ask her for her number, and playfully adding: "Now i’ve got to get my whole face redone” after shedding many a tear.

While Adele got her makeup touched up after her teacher surprised her on stage, her close pal Alan Carr attempted to fill in, much to the delight of the crowd.

The comedian attempted to belt out Make You Feel My Love, and ended by playfully asking the crowd if there were any teachers there to see him too.

As Adele's teacher headed off stage, many of the stars in the audience were seen with tears in their eyes.
