Adele Roberts tearfully accepts Diva Award amid bowel cancer battle

British radio presenter Adele Roberts was visibly tearful as she scooped a gong at Diva Awards ceremony at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel in Covent Garden on Friday night.

Adele, 42, was clearly taken aback by winning the prestigious award and was noticeably overcome with emotion as she went up to the stage to be presented with the Diva Choice Award that was chosen by the Diva Magazine team.

The former Big Brother starwas diagnosed with bowel cancer last Octoberand she has been open with fans about her surgery and chemotherapy as she continues to battle the disease.

During the awards night, Adele was described as a "trailblazer in broadcasting, bringing lesbian visibility to the heart of Radio 1".

Adele appeared on stage with tears streaming down her face as she humbly accepted the award.

After claiming her award, the former I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! star returned to her table and rejoined her clearly proud girlfriend Kare Holderness before the pair took to Instagram to share their emotional reaction to Adele receiving the gong.

The couple shared a video as they kissed the silver Diva accolade and spoke to Adele’s 179k followers.

Adele began: "I cannot believe it. Crying tears of joy. What an amazing surprise and honour.

"I'm having the best night of all time. I'm sorry if my face looks a mess because I've just been crying. I've got a Diva award! It's our baby!

"This means the world. Thank you so much."

She went on: "To Linda (Riley, publisher and founder) and the whole Team Diva. Thank you for everything you do to represent our community. For what you do to empower others, but also for making me feel so amazing tonight."

The news comes just days after brave Adele left fans heartbroken over an emotional video detailing her cancer journey.

Adele’s girlfriend Kate shared a montage of the presenter receiving treatment for bowel cancer in hospital.

Captioning the video, Kate wrote: “FOR ADELE @adeleroberts I don’t think you know how astonishing you are.

“I hope this video helps you see…just a little.”

One clip saw Adele looking at the camera with tears in her eyes while Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s song Shallow played in the background.

Another clip saw Adele being helped up a set of stairs by medical staff in hospital, while another sees her sat down as she flicked through the newspaper.
