Switching things up: Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly decided to have some fun on April Fool’s Day as they announced they are rebranding as Dec and Ant in a hilarious post

They penned: ‘Some big news for you guys… after 30 long years together we’ve decided a change is needed, and so without further ado, we can announce we’ll now be officially known as Dec & Ant. It’s only fair on the little guy x #DecAndAnt’.

Dec’s statement read:  I’m over the moon, we agreed back in the Byker days that he’d take the first 30 years and I’d take the rest… It’s really the only reason I’ve been hanging around with him for this long’.

Ant added:  ‘I’ve had a good run, but it’s time to hand over the reins. Hopefully this step back will give me more time to focus on some of my neglected hobbies… such as stamp collecting and medieval battle reenactments’.

Although the post left their followers in hysterics, they were quick to pick on the fact that it was April Fool’s Day and officially a day of pulling pranks.

After leaving the series, the duo turned their hand to pop music and began releasing songs under the name PJ & Duncan, but kept their Ant and Dec moniker for presenting gigs.

The pair are so synonymous with one another that they are said to be insured a whopping £1 million in the case of the other’s death.

The duo will next be seen together on the weekend for the final episode of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
