Ant and Dec tell wrong family they've won holiday on SNT

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnely tell the WRONG family they’ve won a free holiday before having to halt the show during blunder-filled Saturday Night Takeaway as it returns after a week off

Ant and Dec incorrectly told a hopeful family that they had won a free holiday to a destination of their choice during the latest installment of Saturday Night Takeaway.

The presenting pair, both 46, returned to the small screen for the blunder-filled show after taking last weekend off while the Six Nations were on.

During their ‘happiest minute of the week segment’, the Geordie duo gleefully handed out getaway tickets to audience members and viewers at home.

Awkward! Ant and Dec incorrectly told a hopeful family that they had won a free holiday to a destination of their choice during the latest installment of Saturday Night Takeaway

However when they attempted to surprise one couple, the video footage of another very confused family were broadcast to viewers at home and the live crowd.

Dec said: ‘Stand by in Lancashire because we’re coming to you Robert and Donna Rowland,’ before a man and woman with two young children were shown.

Attempting to hide his embarrassment, he continued: ‘Now your son Adam and his wife Sarah are in the armed forces and are deployed all over the world.

‘So you’re always stepping in to take care of your granddaughter Penny. We think you’re amazing and you deserve a takeaway getaway.’

Yippee! During their ‘happiest minute of the week segment’, the Geordie duo gleefully handed out getaway tickets to audience members and viewers at home

Later on, Ant and Dec were left with no choice but to halt the episode after another technical difficulty caused chaos during the Read My Lips game.

The activity saw a fan of the programme read from a list of words following a common topic, while Line of Duty’s Anna Maxwell Martin attempted the guess what she was saying while wearing headphones.

After it had been announced the theme would be popular TV shows, the contestant began saying ‘Biryani’ repeatedly, much to the confusion of the actress, who began asking, ‘What?’

Ant quickly jumped in to restart the exercise before her 30 second timer even had run out, while she was provided with a correct list of topics.

Uh-oh: However when they attempted to surprise one couple, the video footage of another very confused family were broadcast to viewers at home and the live crowd

What’s going on? Dec said: ‘Stand by in Lancashire because we’re coming to you Robert and Donna Rowland,’ before a man and woman with two young children were shown

Despite the second chance, the woman enjoyed little success as Anna still struggled to guess what she was saying.

However, she did manage to bag herself £500 for getting two right during her first attempt.

Meanwhile in the show, Stephen Mulhern made his highly-anticipated return following his absence from previous shows due to a mystery illness.

The presenter, 44, dressed as Star Wars’ Darth Vader as he made a grand entrance before addressing his notable vacancy.

Oh dear: Later on, Ant and Dec were also left with no choice but to halt the episode after another technical difficulty caused chaos during the Read My Lips game

Admitting that he ‘hadn’t been too well’, he quipped: ‘Let’s just say when your private jet breaks down and you’re stuck in Hollywood, there’s not much you can do. The show must go on.’

Ant soon chimed in: ‘The audience are over the moon to have you back,’ before his pal introduced their latest Ant Vs Dec competition segment.

It comes after Stephen took to Twitter to explain that he ‘had some time off’ to ‘rest up on doctor’s orders’ and would be watching the upcoming episode from his home.

He had appeared in the last two shows and told his followers that he would also not be present for the next episode.

The TV personality wrote: ‘Hello all, Sorry I’ve been quiet on here recently and thank you for all your lovely messages. I’ve had some time off and been resting up on doctors orders.

‘I’m on the mend, I’m happy to say, and looking forward to getting back to work soon. In the meantime I’ll put my feet up and watch Saturday Night Takeaway tonight with the rest of you lot.

‘Please don’t miss me too much! Lots of love, Stephen. X.’

MailOnline approached ITV and Stephen’s representative for comment at the time.
