Baroness Floella Benjamin has described the surreal night she was seduced by the late David Bowie when he offered her ‘the world’ at a party before his wife Angie went on to proposition her.

The former Play School presenter, 72, claims she was swept off her feet by David ‘at the heigh of his fame’ at a Christmas bash in 1973 before she caught the eye of Angie who had an open marriage with David, according to the Mirror.

Writing in her new autobiography What Are You Doing Here?, she claimed The Starman singer told her: ‘Would you like to come upstairs with me? I want to offer you the world. You can have anything you desire.’

Floella added that she has ‘joked ever since about the night I turned down David Bowie’.

The star was starring in Jesus Christ Superstar at the time and a fellow cast member who had worked as a backing singer of David invited her to the party.

It was in the Chelsea home that David shared with his wife Angie, now 72, and their son Duncan, now aged 51.

Other guests at the star-studded celebration where Floella said she felt like ‘Alice in Wonderland’ included Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens and Marc Bolan.

Floella added in her book: ‘When David Bowie walked into the room, slim and charismatic, all eyes were drawn to him. He came straight over to me and bowed. “May I have this dance?” he said.’

She wrote that she was astonished to be led to the dance floor by David, admitting that, while she does not remember the song, she knows it was a slow number and that he held her close, adding: ‘I’ve never forgotten the way he moved.’

Former children’s TV host Floella went on to explain how her evening took an unexpected turn when David’s wife Angie took a liking to her.

David and Angie had an open marriage before their divorce in 1980.

Floella is now married to husband Keith Taylor, with the couple saying ‘I do’ in 1980. 

David died on 10 January 2016 at his home in New York City having suffered from liver cancer for 18 months.
