Britney Spears 'a survivor' despite 'ups & downs' post-conservatorship

Britney Spears ‘remains a survivor’ despite ‘ups and downs’ following the end of her ‘abusive’ conservatorship

It’s been a year and a half since Britney Spears’ 13-year conservatorship ended.

And, the 41-year-old pop music icon is still adjusting to her freedom after living under the guardianship of dad Jamie Spears, 70, for more than a decade of her adult life.

This week, a source revealed to People that what’s most important to the mother-of-two is that she remains a ‘free’ woman.

‘She had been under lock and key for 13 years. Have there been ups and downs? Yes,’ the insider explained.

‘But some of the amazing things she’s done recently have all been her choice. She is a survivor. Despite whatever ups and downs she’s going through, she remains a survivor.’

Spears’ conservatorship, which she testified was ‘abusive’ nearly two years ago, was terminated in late 2021, following its placement after a public mental health crisis in 2008.

At the time, Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart stated, ‘What’s next for Britney is up to one person — and this is the first time we can say this in a decade — it’s up to Britney.’

In the time since, Britney has been outspoken about her mistreatment at the hands of her father and others during the conservatorship.

The music artist said she was made to work against her will, in addition to spending excessive amounts of time in a mental health facility.

Details of the contentious relationships between Britney, mom Lynn Spears, and sister Jamie-Lynn Spears have spilled over on social media on various occasions.

In February, it was shared with People that Spears’ ‘inner circle had to cancel a planned intervention for her,’ though it was noted that she did see a doctor.

‘Britney has been acting increasingly erratically and those around her have grown more concerned,’ a person close to Spears said. ‘She is often up all night, sleeps during [the] day and has a lot of anger.’

It was also reported that things ‘very difficult’ and ‘chaotic’ as the entertainer was nudged to seek help.

‘Everyone had hoped Britney could be convinced to seek treatment before things got any worse but they knew it wouldn’t be easy,’ the person said, adding ‘She’s been going through a lot and has been increasingly combative.’

Last month, Spears and husband Sam Asghari were rumored to be weathering marital woes when they were each pictured without their wedding rings.

An insider told DailyMail.com that despite reports, all was well between the couple.

‘All is good,’ the source dished, adding, ‘Sam is working on a project and she is on a vacation with [manager] Cade [Hudson].’

On Friday Asghari shared a snippet of him hiking with Britney, grinning beside the blonde star as they posed in front of a gorgeous view of the ocean.

‘Hike with my woman,’ wrote Asghari, 29, treating his three million followers to a glimpse of him and his wife.

Done performing: Sources told TMZ that ‘touring and residencies just aren’t in the cards … the grind of performing, endless rehearsals and the precise learning of choreography is just too much for her’

Ahead of the publication’s documentary about Britney, premiering Monday, May 15, TMZ reported that the songstress ‘is in the planning stages of a recording comeback.’

Despite her plan to create new music, Britney has no plans to hit the stage to perform for fans.

Sources told the outlet that ‘touring and residencies just aren’t in the cards … the grind of performing, endless rehearsals and the precise learning of choreography is just too much for her.’

Britney previously had a successful Las Vegas residency under the conservatorship.
