Bruce Springsteen turns down having a New Jersey Turnpike rest stop named after him… though Jon Bon Jovi, James Gandolfini and Frank Sinatra will

Bruce Springsteen is turning down a chance to have a rest stop along the New Jersey Turnpike named after him.

The 71-year-old Long Branch, New Jersey native is one of the Garden State’s most famous sons, though he declined to have a rest stop named for him, according to NorthJersey.com.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority teamed up with the New Jersey Hall of Fame, which will feature displays for each celebrity at their respective rest stop, such as Jon Bon Jovi, James Gandolfini and Frank Sinatra.

When asked why Springsteen wasn’t a part of this new endeavor, New Jersey Hall of Fame spokeswoman Natasha Alagarasan said, ‘Bruce Springsteen respectfully declined to have a service area named after him.’

‘It should be noted, though, that Bruce has been very supportive of the New Jersey Hall of Fame over the years, and is very much a part of the fabric of the Hall,’ she added.

Each of these new rest stops, which feature convenience stores, gas stations and fast food restaurants, will also include displays put together by the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

‘Millions of New Jersey drivers travel on the Garden State Parkway every day,” said Transportation Commissioner Diane Scaccetti-Gutierrez, who oversees the Turnpike Authority.

‘The service areas they visit during those travels are a fitting place to call attention to the accomplishments of their fellow New Jerseyans in the arts, entertainment, and sports,’ she continued, after the names were approved at Tuesday’s meeting.

Other rest stops along the New Jersey Turnpike are already named after other luminaries such as Molly Pitcher, Alexander Hamilton, Joyce Kilmer and Thomas Edison.
