The film, directed by New Zealand’s Taika Waititi, is expected to invest over $178million in the local economy, will create around 2,500 jobs and enlist services from around 1,650 businesses. Marvel has also set up a trainee program for Australian actors and crew as part of the deal.

According to Screen NSW, it’s part of a deal which will see several of the Marvel films made in Australia over the coming years.

Another Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, also filmed in Sydney last year as part of the deal.

In 2019 when the grant was announced, Australia’s federal arts minister, Paul Fletcher, and his New South Wales counterpart, Don Harwin, explained how they had lured Marvel to Sydney with the $24m grant.

All dressed up: Both Hemsworth and Pratt were decked out in their costumes as they got to work on the upcoming blockbuster, which is slated for release next year

‘Australia has an ongoing relationship with Marvel Studios and I’m very pleased they will return to our shores again next year,’ Fletcher said. ‘This announcement means Marvel Studios will be producing films in Sydney for the next few years,’ added Harwin.

Monday marked the first time US actor Pratt, 41, and Australian Hemsworth, 37,  have been spotted in full costume as they film the Hollywood blockbuster.

Hemsworth portrays Thor in the franchise, while Pratt will reprise his role as Peter Quill or Star-Lord, previously seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films.

On set: Earlier on Monday Hemsworth transformed himself into the Marvel superhero as he shot more scenes for Love and Thunder

Lights, camera! Giving fans a first glimpse of the new film, the Australian box office megastar was seen with Thor’s iconic long blond tresses on the set

Hemsworth was seen back in his character’s long blonde wig and carrying Thor’s stormbreaker axe around set, with his muscular arms on show in a sleeveless red leather vest.

Pratt meanwhile was dressed in Starlord’s red armour as the two actors chatted between takes during the al fresco shoot.

Take one! The actors looked to be in deep conversation during a flurry of activity happening around them on the set

Chris showed a dressed-down Thor with him flaunting his bulging biceps in a white singlet and pair of snug-fit denim jeans.

Production certainly looked to be in full swing with a flurry of activity happening around the two actors during filming.

The two actors were surrounded by camera equipment, with production assistants and sound guys running around on set. Chris was also seen alongside his stunt double on set with both men seen wearing the long blond wigs.

Other actors were seen wandering around the set including Sean Gunn dressed in a purple spacesuit.  Another actor was dressed in what appeared to be an elaborate extraterrestrial costume as she wandered the set.

Muscled: The actor was clearly in shape for the role with him wearing a tight pair of jeans and a singlet for the role – with him almost busting out of the singlet

Double trouble: Chris was later seen with a stunt double as they prepped for some action scenes during the busy day of shooting

The film’s biggest stars have converged on Sydney for filming including Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson. Matt Damon is also in the country.

For the past few weeks the inner city of Sydney has become home to a number of sets for the big budget franchise.

The film is being shot at the city’s Fox Studios but elaborate structures have been set up at nearby Centennial Park.

A pile of dirt was dumped in the middle of the park, surrounded by brown set pieces that resemble rocks or ant colonies.

Scene! Sean Gunn was seen in full costume on set of the film donning an elaborate purple suit before shooting

First: Sean strolled confidently around the set with it appearing his scenes were first up

Crossover: Sean previously portrayed Kraglin, who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy

A staircase was also seen leading up to a platform, presumably to help with the dynamics of the scene that will be filmed there.

In the forthcoming Thor instalment, Natalie Portman is back as Jane Foster, and will also pick up the hammer and become the Goddess of Thunder.

Waititi has explained that the new film will be based on an existing comic book storyline where Portman’s character of Dr Jane Foster takes up the powers and hammer of Thor after he is stripped of his abilities.

Natalie was absent for 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, but was a key player in the first two Thor films in 2011 and 2013.

Shooting has returned to Australia, following on from Thor: Ragnarok, which was Waititi’s Marvel debut, and was also filmed Down Under.

The new film is due for cinematic release in May 2022.
