Corrie fans call out plot hole in Seb Franklin's murder investigation

Eagle-eyed Coronation Street fans call out plot hole in Seb Franklin’s murder investigation as Kelly Neelan is framed by Corey Brent for hate crime attack

Eagle-eyed Coronation Street fans have called out an obvious plot hole in Seb Franklin’s murder investigation storyline.

Earlier this week Kelly Neelan was framed by Corey Brent for a hate crime attack on Seb and his girlfriend Nina Lucas which resulted in the builder’s death.

However viewers have been quick to point out that Kelly would never have been able to attack and kill a man nearly twice her size.

Wednesday night’s episode saw Corey ring his dad to get advice on how to avoid the blame for his death and he suggested framing Kelly before the police obtained forensic evidence linking him to the crime.

Corey then told the police that Kelly had repeatedly kicking Seb in the head, which Kelly tried to deny when she later visited the station.

Speaking about Corey the officer told Kelly: ‘He came to us voluntarily, before any forensic evidence had been presented.

‘He gave a full account that’s fully supported by that evidence, from the blood we found on your trainers and skirt, to the DNA we recovered from Miss Lucas.

‘Whereas you have offered nothing voluntarily, only making admissions when presented with incontrovertible evidence. Tell me Kelly, who would you believe?’

However fans watching struggled to believe it plausible Kelly would have been able to overpower Seb.

One tweeted: ‘As if the police would believe that Kelly could push Seb down to the ground and that Corey wouldn’t be able to stop Kelly. She’s half the size of him.’

Another agreed, writing: ‘True! And she wouldn’t be able to beat both of them up!’

A third said: ‘Surely the Police can tell someone of Kelly’s size couldn’t do that vicious attack alone!’

A fourth wrote: ‘So Kelly managed to single handedly kill Seb whilst also assaulting Nina. Meanwhile Corey, a guy twice Kelly’s size, wasn’t able to pull her off Seb. Soap police being smart as usual.’

A fifth tweeted: ‘I’m sure Seb as a male man would have been able to defend himself against Kelly what utter b*****ks.’

It comes after on Monday’s episode, Kelly – played by Millie Gibson – was charged with Seb’s murder.

Seb’s grieving mother Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) was told the news by a police officer, who explained: ‘In light of new evidence, the police have charged a number of people. Kelly Neelan has been charged with GBH for the assault on Nina – and for the murder of your son.’

However, gang member Corey (Maximus Evans) – who was the main instigator in the vicious attack – avoided charges after his girlfriend Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) offered him an alibi by claiming he was with her on the night of the murder.

When asked by Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell): ‘What about Corey?’ the officer responded: ‘He’s not been charged yet, however this is an ongoing investigation and we will update you with all developments.’

She also told distraught Abi: ‘Eli Higginson and Jason Downing have pleaded guilty to GBH for the attack on Nina and are now on remand.’

In Friday’s episode, Seb and Nina were targeted by a gang of thugs who shouted abuse about Nina’s goth identity.

The storyline had many similarities to what happened to Sophie Lancaster, who was murdered in a Lancashire park in 2007, and the soap has worked with a foundation set up by the late 20-year-old’s mother Dr Sylvia Lancaster OBE.

Nina woke up from her coma after the shock incident but Seb’s brain function was severely damaged.

In the emotional episode, Seb’s mum Abi was left heartbroken and in tears as she sat by his bedside after being told his brain was no longer functioning.

The doctor told her: ‘Sebastian failed the brain stem tests.

‘His brain is no longer sending messages to his body. We were increasing the amount of organ support for Seb but I’m afraid it wasn’t working and his body has shut down.

‘There was nothing more we could do and his heart has stopped. I’m so very sorry, he has died.’

Also on Friday’s programme Abi was questioned by police officers who asked if Seb and Nina had ever taken drugs.

Elsewhere, as Nina woke up she appeared to mumble that she had seen Corey just before the attack.
