Demi Lovato acknowledges that ‘there might be a time where I identify as trans’… as the star singer celebrates their 29th birthday

They are turning 29 years of age on Friday, and are taking some time to reflect on their gender journey up until now.

And Demi Lovato commented further on their gender expression this week, when they spoke as part of the 19th Represents Summit.

The Heart Attack singer, who first identified as gender nonbinary in May of this year, explained: ‘Being nonbinary, what that means…is that I’m so much more than the binary of man and woman.

‘And that we are all so much more if we allow ourselves the ability to look within ourselves and challenge that binary that we’ve grown up living in,’ Demi continued.

Later, Lovato also discussed the fears they felt around the time that they came out as they/them.

‘I was very nervous in the beginning to come out as nonbinary because I didn’t want people to think it was inauthentic.

‘I just wanted people to see what coming out as nonbinary meant to my healing process,’ they added.

They also shared thoughts on where they might be headed in the future regarding gender expression and identity.  

‘There might be a time where I identify as trans…there might be a time where I identify as nonbinary and gender nonconforming my entire life.

‘Or maybe there’s a period of time when I get older that I identify as a woman,’ Demi reflected.  

‘I have a feeling that it’s not going to ever go back to one way or the other,’ Demi concluded. 

‘But I just, it’s about keeping it open and free and just I’m a very fluid person, and so that goes with how I express myself as well.’

Recently, the Confident hitmaker was a guest on the Netflix reality show Cooking With Paris, featuring Paris Hilton.

On the program, the pair tried their hand at making what looked to be colorful cannolis. 

‘Thank you for having me @parishilton,’ Demi wrote alongside a video from the show on their Instagram. ‘I had SO much fun cooking with you and I can’t for many more nights like this!’
