Les Dennis, 68, is much loved for his long career on stage and screen, and he’ll soon be returning to star in a new musical. In an exclusive chat with Express.co.uk, the star opened up about his thoughts on rising Covid numbers as well as his own health.
Speaking back in December, Les explained how he had just finished appearing in his first opera.
He starred in HMS Pinafore at the English National Opera at the end of 2021.
As a result, he admitted he hadn’t yet booked in his Covid booster jab as he didn’t want it to impact his performance schedule.
However, Les went on to unveil his plans to get it done before the festive season.
He said at the time: “I’m double jabbed, I haven’t had my booster yet because I was on stage in the show.
“I didn’t want to get a reaction and not have to be able to finish the run at the ENO.
“So I’m looking to that now and I will definitely get my booster before Christmas.”
Les went on to admit he’s managed to avoid catching Covid so far, and he knows theatres are doing everything they can to be safe.
He added: “I’ve been very lucky, I haven’t had COVID.
“I’ve been in shows where people around me, even in the opera we had a couple of cast members that went down with it towards the end.
“I seem to have managed, touch wood, to miss it so far.
“But, you know, we’ll just hope that people feel safe enough.
“And they should because the theatres are going to all lengths to make sure that people are safe in the theatre.
“And if you wear your mask in the auditorium, you should be fine.”
Les was speaking ahead of returning to the stage for a new production of Fat Friends: The Musical.
The show will be touring around the country from this month, heading to regional theatres.
It is based on Kay Mellor’s series of the same name, which was originally broadcast from 2000 until 2005.
Viewers will remember it starred Gavin and Stacey stars James Corden, Ruth Jones and Alison Steadman.
The new version sees Les star alongside Sherrie Hewson, Jessica Ellis and Lee Mead.
