Emma Thompson reveals she asked Prince William for a kiss

‘I wrote him a fan letter after!’ Emma Thompson reveals she asked Prince William for a KISS while receiving her damehood

Emma Thompson has revealed she asked to ‘kiss’ Prince William when she received her damehood, and said she even wrote him a ‘fan letter afterwards.’

The actress, 62, made an appearance via videolink on The Jonathan Ross Show, which is set to air on Saturday, and reflected on becoming a Dame as well as bonding with her Cruella co-star Emma Stone over tequila.

Reflecting on becoming a Dame in the 2018 Birthday Honours, she said: ‘Prince William was absolutely fantastic. I wrote him a fan letter afterwards.

Amusing: Emma Thompson said she wanted to ‘kiss’ Prince William when she received her damehood and discussed bonding with Emma Stone on The Jonathan Ross Show (pictured)

‘His face and body language, so kind and generous to every single person. I’ve known him since he was little really. I’ve always liked him.

‘I couldn’t believe how tall he’d got. I did say, “I suppose I better not kiss you” and he said, “Probably better not”.

I asked him about him and he said, “Will you please stop talking about me, it’s about you.” What a nice man.’

Going on to discuss Cruella, Emma was asked about bonding with her co-star and she quipped: ‘Who doesn’t bond over tequila for crying out loud?’

Emma S said of her, ‘I’ve been an enormous Emma T fan for as long as I can remember. I knew I was going to be in love with her and then she came through with flying colours.

‘And the opposite of this character who is a complete narcissist, a brutal woman. Emma T is a polar opposite, so a real joy on and off screen.’

Cruella is a prequel to Disney’s 101 Dalmatians and follows a young Estella de Vil, an aspiring fashion designer in 1970s London played by Emma S.

The Love Actually star portrays The Baroness in Cruella, the titular character’s boss and the head of a prestigious London fashion house.

Getting close: Going on to discuss Cruella, Emma was asked about bonding with her co-star and she quipped: ‘Who doesn’t bond over tequila for crying out loud?’

Gushing: Emma S said of her, ‘I’ve been an enormous Emma T fan for as long as I can remember. I knew I was going to be in love with her and then she came through’

She said of taking on the role: ‘Even though she is so awful, she says this brilliant thing, “If I’d taken notice of anyone except myself, I wouldn’t have got anywhere”.

‘For a lot of women I guess, that’s true. So you kind of go, “Yeah, I kind of get that.”‘

The Amazing Spider-Man actress added: ‘She’s heavenly because she gets to throw cucumber at her staff. What could be more delightful? At one point I’m given a taser which I enjoyed far too much.’

The Jonathan Ross Show airs Saturday at 9.30pm on ITV.

Cruella is released in cinemas on May 28 and becomes available as premium video on demand on streaming service Disney+ the same day.
