Emma Willis has refused to stop her son from expressing himself after she was criticised for uploading a photo of him wearing a pink crop top.

The 44 year old is mum to nine year old son Ace and daughters Isabelle, 11, and Trixie, four.

Ace became the topic of online conversation last month when Emma shared an image of Ace with shoulder length blond hair, wearing a pink cropped top, ripped jeans and a pair of pink trainers.

The Voice UK presenter Emma called Ace her "style icon" at the time, and has now spoken more about her decision to let Ace choose how he dresses.

She said: "I think it's a really individual, personal thing. You know, my son likes what he likes, and far be it for me to stop him expressing himself or experimenting however he likes with clothes.

"I see it as hair is hair, clothes are clothes and colour is colour. And, you know, if my son wants to wear a pink top, I'm certainly not going to stop him.

"Let kids explore. Kids love exploring. And they don't just have to explore in the dirt with worms and spiders, they can explore with colour and clothes and hair. I just let him be him," she continued to tell The Sun Online.

She previously opened up to Fabulous magazine on the matter, telling them: "Say what you want about me, I'm big enough to take it on the chin.

"But when you get comments like that regarding your children, it just makes the Hulk want to come out and scream at the world.

"I'm so protective of my kids and this was just a young boy expressing himself the way he wants to.

"I thought: 'Did you not watch '80s dance movies? All the boys wore crop tops and it was cool!'

"He is very individual, he dresses the way he wants and he's really happy doing that. Why would I try to suppress that?"

She continued: "The response was a big eye-opener, because for me, it's just Ace, he's my son and that's the way he's always been.

"So it did massively make me start thinking about stereotyping and how bonkers it is that a boy, just because he has long hair and is wearing pink, is mistaken for a girl.

"I've started following a few Instagram accounts that talk about these issues – @notonlypinkandblue and @lettoysbetoys are great – so it's made me educate myself about the way other people see things."
