Emmerdale is hit with 65 Ofcom complaints over murderous Meena storyline – as fans complain it is ‘too much for early evening viewing’
Emmerdale has been hit by a barrage Ofcom complaints from viewers over its murderous storyline involving killer Meena Jutla.
The ITV soap has come under fire again after fans previously complained about the murder of Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon) by Meena (Paige Sandhu) before Christmas.
Paige’s character Meena, arrived in Emmerdale in September 2020 and has since been on a homicidal rampage having murdered characters including Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger) and Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale).

During an episode which aired on January 12, Meena revealed what was set to come next, as she told of her plans to kill Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson).
In the end Meena decided against the double murder and told the pair they had another hour to live before she would return to finish the job.
Following the scenes, 65 viewers wrote to the TV watchdog to issue complaints about the ongoing storyline. The company confirmed were related to the ‘ongoing storyline involving serial killer Meena Jutla’.

The watch also confirmed that complaints about Emmerdale over the past month have all been relating to the same storyline.
They received 65 complaints on January 4 and 91 more complaints the following day.
Referencing the storyline online, one Twitter user wrote: ‘Ofcom have received 100+ complaints about Meena!’
Another person complained: ‘This Meena storyline is way too much before the watershed. Soaps are for family viewing. It’s giving our kids too many ideas.
‘I will be reporting this to @Ofcom it needs to end #toomuch.’

A third person agreed and wrote: ‘#Emmerdale reporting this Meena story to Ofcom. It’s not much before the watershed. Giving people ideas is not great.’
A different person penned: ‘@Ofcom I wish to make a complaint about Emmerdale and the Meena story with the diazepan, this should be put a stop to now.’
One other said: ‘I’ve just submitted a complaint to Ofcom about tonight’ storyline. The Meena story is bad enoguh without dragging the issue of suicide into it in such a blase manner. Just shocking.’

Meena is set to return to the village next week on an angry rampage after she spots Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) and Billy Fletcher’s (Jay Kontzle) ‘save the date’ announcement on social media.
Residents of the village were led to believe that Meena had fled Emmerdale and left the country, however she stuck around to keep an eye on them.
According to Metro, Ofcom received 74 complaints about the dramatic scene where Meena murdered Ben Tucker in September.

Ben found himself in Meena’s firing line after he got his hands on the tape and ended up making a run for it.
Meena followed him but then slipped on spilled alcohol and appeared to hit her head.
Ben left the footage in his car and then returned to check on Meena but found she had disappeared.
Circling back to the car, he saw the footage was now gone before Meena attacked him with an oar.

Meena then re-watched the footage of her attempted murder of Victoria as Ben screamed for help, before she beat him to death.
The shocking death hadn’t been revealed by soap bosses, and spelled the end of Ben’s year-long stint in the village.
But many fans weren’t pleased that Meena had once again avoided being exposed, quickly flooding social media with their views.
One wrote: ‘So Dawn forgets to mention that it was Meena who was telling her that Billy wasn’t over her? Erm thats essential info! I’m tempted to turn off.’

Another added: ‘Ah yes a serial killer is chasing after you and you go back to see if they’re okay.’
A third added: ‘If Meena kills again and gets away with it, then I’m giving up with this show.’
‘Anyone else bored of this Meena storyline now? Can she either be found out of meet a very sticky end cos at this rate, she will have murdered most of the village by new year,’ one viewer tweeted.
A fan also posted: ‘Meena storylines are really doing my head in like how she’s getting away in murdering people and still gets away with it.’
‘This Meena storyline is boring. It’s unrealistic for a person to act so weird and off and get away with everything they do. The sooner it ends the better,’ a viewer posted.
Viewers saw Ben’s boyfriend Aaron discover his partner has been killed, setting the stage for his exit after actor Danny Miller confirmed last week he’d quit the soap.
Ben became Meena’s third victim as she desperately attempted to cover up her crimes, after leaving Andrea to meet her maker in the burning corn maze during the dramatic survival week.
Over the summer she killed teen Leanna Cavanagh after she discovered Meena secretly stole money from the village’s gay pride collection, and had murdered her best friend Nadine before moving to the village.

After Andrea discovered Meena’s role in Leanna’s death, she then met a sticky end, and since then viewers have been praying for the moment the murderous nurse is finally exposed.
Little has been revealed about when, or if, Meena every gets found out, though actress Paige Sandhu has shared her idea scenario.
She said: ‘In my dreams, this is what happens. Manpreet and Meena are there in the street. It’s nighttime and Meena’s about to kill someone, so Manpreet has to save this person,’ she said.
‘The only way Manpreet can save this person is by killing Meena, so she does it.
‘Then Meena dies in Manpreet’s arms and they have this beautiful sisterly moment where Meena almost confesses love for her. She’s almost normal and able to feel something – and then she dies! That’s what I want.’
