Fern has been back on screen recently with a program that showcases the very best of what Britain can offer.  Indeed, Episode 2 of her Channel 5 program My Cornwall With Fern Britton airs tonight at 8pm and sees Fern explore the north coast of Cornwall. The much-adored presenter fell in love with the north coast in the early 2000s when she bought a static caravan overlooking the sea, and it is now the part of the country she calls home.

Strangely, Fern even announced on Tuesday’s edition of ITV’s Lorraine that she may have come across a family of pixies while filming the show.

On the possible sighting she said: “I don’t know, I don’t know what I saw but I actually know in my mind I saw this little family of pixies.

“They were in a hedgerow, walking up a lane in dappled sunshine and I did [have to rub my eyes] and thought, ‘What?’

“They then turned into this family of grouse with a rustic colour and who knows if that was real or not.”

Fern came to mainstay national attention when presenting Ready Steady Cook between 1994 and 2000 on BBC One whilst she was also co-host of ITV’s This Morning from 1999 to 2009.

In the run up to hosting regal themed ITV panel show A Right Royal Quiz, aired on New Year’s Eve 2017, the presenter spoke of the members of the Royal Family she had met and offered an open invitation for Harry and Meghan to come on the show.

She told What To Watch: “Yes, I’ve met Prince Charles and Camilla.

“I also saw Diana at events – there was something about her – she had a huge presence.

“After she left the room there was a Disney twinkle still in the air.

“I’ve met the Queen a couple of times too and shaken hands, she was very nice.

“I’d love to meet the boys “They seem very human. I’d love to have Harry and Meghan on the show!”

A Right Royal Quiz offered up a number of fascinating facts, secrets and archive footage on the Royal Family.

The show pitted two royal-loving celebrity teams against one another with the winning team awarded the Crown of Right Royalness.

The featured celebrities included comedian Hal Cruttenden, TV presenters Jodie Kidd and Angellica Bell and comic legend Joe Pasquale, whilst special guests also made appearances, though none quite as special as Harry and Meghan.

Ms Britton admitted:  “I’ve had an obsession since I was quite young.

“I’m not necessarily a royalist but I love the history of it all.

“I’ve some Golden Jubilee plates in the downstairs loo!”

Of course, since the programme’s airing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been at the centre of media controversy.

Despite announcing their engagement in September 2017 and tying the knot eight months later at St George’s Chapel, the couple quit as senior members of the Royal Family in January 2020 after tensions between the British media and Meghan, as well as a rift between the Sussexes and Cambridges.

The couple announced their unprecedented royal exit via an Instagram statement.

It read: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year into starting to carve out a progressive role within this institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty the Queen.”

My Cornwall With Fern Britton is on tonight at 8pm on Channel 5.
