What is endometriosis? How the disorder results in pelvic pain and internal scarring

Endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus — the endometrium — grows outside the uterus.

It most commonly affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the tissue lining the pelvis.

The primary symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain, although many women also experience cramping during their menstrual cycle.

Symptoms also include painful periods, pain with intercourse, pain with bowel movements or urination, inflammation, excessive bleeding, and infertility.

Often misdiagnosed, many women only discover they have the condition during infertility treatment.

Approximately half of women diagnosed with endometriosis have difficulty getting pregnant.

While studies about the link between endometriosis and miscarriages are still ongoing, newer research suggests that the condition can leave sufferers at greater risk of having a miscarriage.

Sophie’s hospital dash comes a few months after it was reported that she’d hit it off with Katie Price’s ex-fiance Kris Boyson.

The Geordie Shore star and the fitness professional were hosting the Social Ikon Launch Party in London back in March, when they got cosy, according to The Sun.

An insider told the publication: ‘Kris was in his absolute element being surrounded by so many beautiful women at the Social Ikon launch event and was flirting up a storm all night.

‘He was hosting the evening with Sophie and they clearly had great chemistry.

What’s wrong: Sophie hasn’t confirmed exactly what her ailments have been or her diagnosis

‘But he didn’t just have eyes for her and was really working the room, chatting to a different woman every five minutes.

‘He was clearly loving the attention and who could blame him.’

MailOnline have contacted reps for Kris and Sophie for comment. They said: ‘Kris 100 per cent wasn’t flirting with Sophie.

‘They were hosting an event together, they’re friends and have no attraction towards each other romantically.’
