The Malone family were propelled to nationwide fame on the hit Channel 4 series Gogglebox, when they were cast on the show back in 2014. They quickly became one of the most beloved families on the program, but Tom Malone Jr revealed that the head of the Malone household Tom Sr, isn’t as “grumpy” in real life as viewers may think.

As much as people think my dad’s this big grumpy… he’s the softest person in the world

The Malone Family include dad Tom, mum Julie and their four children – Lee, Vanessa and Tom Jr. and Shaun.

In a recent interview on The Manc Podcast, Tom explained that their famous family are particularly well-known for their four huge dogs; all Rottweilers that often steal the show during episodes.

Discussing their now-famous four-legged friends, Tom revealed that they have four only because his dad is a big softy at heart.

He told the hosts that three of their pups are all siblings, but they were only meant to bring one of the two females home.

“We were meant to be getting one, just Izzie,” Tom explained.

“But it was just her and Lucy left and they were inseparable and playing with my dad and pulling on his heartstrings.”

He added: “As much as people think my dad’s this big grumpy… he’s the softest person in the world.

“He couldn’t leave them both there!”

Tom also let fans in on a little secret, revealing the identity of their greedy pooch who always goes after the tasty array of treats the Malone’s have on display.

“The dogs are really good to be fair, the only one that isn’t is Bob,” he chuckled.

“There’s Dave and everyone always thinks that’s the one they see eating the cakes, because Dave is the idiot that’s well known and acts up.

“But whenever you see someone eating the cakes, it’s always Bob!”

He added: “Bob’s the biggest and the youngest, but because he’s the youngest he’s always got away with a lot more – like siblings!”

The new series of Gogglebox began last month, but there was one familiar face missing from the Malone’s sofa.

Tom announced he wouldn’t be appearing on the show anymore as he’s looking to explore other opportunities.

In an Instagram post, Tom wrote: “So after 6 and a half years it’s finally time to put down the remote, and to say goodbye to Gogglebox.

“I’ve loved every minute and I’m eternally grateful to @channel4 and @studiolambert for allowing me to be a part of the show. But new opportunities are knocking on the door and it’s time to explore them.”

He added: “I look forward to enjoying the show as a viewer and not having to worry about having said something stupid. PS. Don’t worry my family @themalonesgb and @shaunmalone95 will still be on the show to keep you guys entertained every Friday.”

He also posted a photo of him holding a sign which read: “Back on the market, get at me with TV work.”

The news came as a shock to fans of the show, with some followers putting his decision down to something to do with his girlfriend.

But those rumours were soon out to bed, as he clarified on Twitter: “Just to clear a few things up: – I didn’t ‘Quit’ the show… I left on good terms.

“My girlfriend never even wanted to be on the show and had nothing I do with me leaving.

“I wasn’t scared to say something stupid. Anyone spouting these narratives are spreading fabrications.”
