Piers Morgan, 56, left the ITV morning show after he sparked over 57,000 Ofcom complaints following his rant about 39-year-old Meghan Markle. The ex presenter has previously said all his co-stars except from Alex Beresford, who he clashed with on the show, reached out to him following his swift departure.

Now, Charlotte Hawkins, 46, has opened up about the pair’s messages following a recent catch-up.

She said: “Piers Morgan and I still keep in touch.

“We met up the other day and he’d sent me a text beforehand saying he was looking forward to being able to annoy me again!”

She added to Prima Magazine: “It’s that mischievousness I love about Piers… and he does manage to annoy in a way no one else can!”

The journalist sparked backlash after he told viewers he didn’t believe a word Prince Harry’s wife said during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan told the host she felt suicidal during her time in the Royal Family and also said an unnamed member had concerns about their son Archie’s skin colour.

ITV later announced that Piers would not be returning to the show as over 57,000 complaints were recorded.

Addressing the nation the following day, his ex co-star Susanna Reid said: “He is without doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster.

“He has many critics and he has many fans. You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview.

“He himself clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday.

“There are many voices on GMB and everyone has their say. But now Piers has decided to leave the programme. Some of you may cheer and others may boo.”

She added: “It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go.”

The father-of-four was no stranger to light-heartedly mocking his colleagues during his time on the show.

On several occasions, he joked about Charlotte and Susanna’s respective Strictly Come Dancing stints after they failed to win.

Previously addressing her co-star’s swipes, she told Express.co.uk: “For everyone else, we celebrate taking part in these things.

“We celebrate the fact that you put the effort in, you go out there and do your best because that’s what it’s about.

“But with Piers you’re either a winner or a complete failure. It’s black and white in his world.”

She added the controversial journalist was “too chicken” to do another reality after he won Celebrity Apprentice in 2008.
