Helen Flanagan says she’ll ‘definitely’ take Scott’s name when they marry in 2023

It’s more than 20 years since Helen Flanagan became a household name, when she took over the role of precocious Rosie Webster in Coronation Street.

But when OK! caught up with Helen, her fiance Scott Sinclair and their three children for a festive shoot, Helen revealed that she’s planning to give up that famous name when she and footballer Scott wed in 2023.

However the gesture doesn’t mean that Helen is turning back on her career, and she shot down rumours that she’d teetered over those Corrie cobbles for the last time.

“I’ll definitely take Scott’s name and be Helen Sinclair,” she told us. “I want to have the same name as the kids. That will be lovely.”

Addressing the career rumours, Helen added: "I wouldn’t go back [to Corrie] at the moment, as Charlie isn’t even one yet. Your children are only young once, so I don’t want to miss out on anything.”

And as she talks more about her work, it’s clear that returning to acting will be a balancing act for Helen, as her home life will always be the priority.

“I would really love to do some theatre,” admitted the star, who away from Weatherfield has also acted in an episode of Holby City. “I really want to focus back on my acting. I probably will go back to Coronation Street at some point, and I’d love to do a drama.”

“The kids are always going to be my number one, though, so it will be what fits around them."

This is an extra special festive season for Helen and Scott. Not only is it their nine-month-old son Charlie’s first Christmas, but it will be the family’s first in what former Coronation Street actress Helen, 31, calls their “forever home”.

The couple moved in a few months ago after the Preston North End footballer surprised his fiancée with the purchase.

But Scott, 32, is no stranger to romantic gestures. He got down on one knee to propose during a family holiday to Disneyland Paris in 2018 and now he and Helen are planning their dream day with the aid of daughters Matilda, six, and three-year-old Delilah, who are to be bridesmaids.

And despite everything else going on in her life, with marriage plans, a new home and three children, Helen is determined to make time to tune into the new series of Dancing On Ice early next year, as one of the plucky contestants is her screen mum Sally Dynevor – aka the Street’s Sally Metcalfe.

“I’m really excited to watch her,” Helen said. “I’m hoping I’ll be able to go and see her live. Matilda is really into ice-skating and always goes with her grandma, so I’d love to take her to watch Sally.”

Helen has a great relationship with both Sally and Brooke Vincent, who played Rosie’s little sister Sophie and is herself now a mum of two boys, Mex and Monroe, with her footballer beau, Kean Bryan.

The trio have continued to meet up away from the ITV soap set, with Sally delighting in her screen daughters’ new roles as mothers over the last few years.

Helen said of Sally: “On Corrie she always used to help me and Brooke [Vincent] with our lines and directions. She’s so lovely so I think everyone will love her.”
