The British royal family is infamously selective about how they present themselves to the public, and how much (or little) of their personal lives they’re willing to share. Up until fairly recently, an in-depth, on-camera interview with Oprah Winfrey would have been unthinkable. However, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stopped being constrained by royal rules — both written and unwritten — a while ago, even if it risks deepening the rumored rift between Harry and his brother, Prince William.
Meghan and Harry rocked the entire world (not least of all Queen Elizabeth herself) when they announced that they would be stepping down as senior members of the royal family and moving with their son Archie to California. Meghan and Harry’s fraught relationship with the press, specifically the British tabloids, is contentious even by monarch standards. They’ve even sued papers for privacy violations, and Meghan has been dogged by consistently invasive, hurtful, and often racist tabloid stories. And, of course, Harry’s mother Princess Diana was killed in a car accident while being chased by paparazzi.
It may not be the royal way of doing things, but it certainly makes sense why they’d take an opportunity to tell their story on their own terms in an interview such as this. Unfortunately for them, it doesn’t look like Prince William and Kate Middleton agree.
Princes William and Harry are rumored to be feuding
Apparently, Prince William and Kate Middleton are “utterly aghast” that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are airing an in-depth televised interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to an inside source, per Us Weekly. The unnamed insider reportedly told the outlet, “It’s just beyond the pale for William and Kate, especially in light of the dreadful timing with [Prince] Philip in the hospital.”
The interview will reportedly be “no holds barred,” and the couple will discuss their decision to leave royal life behind, baby number two, and their future plans. While one source says in Us Weekly they will not bash William and Kate in the interview, a separate source told E! News that they will be addressing the “tension” within the family. They are expected to be quite “candid” in the chat, and “tell their truth” — which has pretty much been their style lately.
The tell-all will air on March 7, 2021, on CBS after the Commonwealth Day special featuring the rest of the royal family and a pre-recorded speech by the queen. So, it’s almost like they’re all together, right?
