Aljaz Skorjanec, 31, has shared how important his marriage with fellow Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara, 37, is. The dancer opened up about how she helped him during lockdown when he felt “lost”.

Strictly professional Aljaz has been part of the series for many years alongside his wife Janette.

However, while he may be all smiles on the BBC series, he has revealed how tough he found the recent lockdowns.

Appearing on his fellow Strictly star Kevin Clifton’s podcast, the dancer opened up about this.

He explained: “Because I do for a living what I love to do, why would there be a reason for me not to be happy?

“What is there in life that can make me so unhappy that I can change my mood if I ultimately do what I love at the end of the day?

“When that was taken away because of lockdown, I was lost for a second there.”

Aljaz added how he found the weather difficult when he was dealing with his mental health.

He continued: “It was raining every day, you couldn’t go out and it was a bit of a struggle, Kev.

“I’m going to admit it to you, especially for people who enjoy what they do.”

However, the much-loved Strictly professional admitted his “saving grace” through it all was Janette.

The pair have been married since 2017 after tying the knot in a ceremony in London.

Aljaz explained: “The good thing was Janette was going through the same thing as well so we had the same issue.

“We talked loads about it. We helped each other through it.

“I probably would have struggled a lot more if I had gone through lockdown completely on my own.”

He continued: “Being together was a saving grace.”

Despite opening up on his harder days, the dancer has been back rehearsing for a new show.

Called Here Come The Boys, he has been back in the studio dancing.

However, wife Janette recently shared how this had made her slightly sad.

Sharing an image of them together on her Instagram, she revealed how this has taken him away from home.

She wrote: “This was the first picture @aljazskorjanec and I ever took together! 2010!

“We were just friends then. Little did I know…

“He starts rehearsals today for @herestheboys so our home feels a little bit empty.

“Cannot WAIT to watch him & the whole cast on stage! But for today, reminiscing these beautiful memories is making me smile.”
