Jake Quickenden trolled over doing 'skin-to-skin' with son

Jake Quickenden details abuse from critics who trolled him for doing ‘skin-to-skin’ with his newborn son Leo and wished death upon the unborn child

Jake Quickenden has detailed his horrendous experience with trolls who accused him of ‘attention-seeking’ for doing skin-to-skin contact with his newborn baby.

The TV personality, 32, spoke of his upset after being criticised for the action despite being instructed to do so by midwives at the hospital, after his girlfriend Sophie Church gave birth to their first child, Leo.

The former X Factor star and his girlfriend welcomed their little boy on Friday.

Interview: Jake Quickenden has detailed his horrendous experience with trolls who accused him of ‘attention-seeking’ for doing skin-to-skin contact with his newborn baby

Appearing on Wednesday’s episode of Lorraine, he said: ‘I was trolled for taking my top off in the hospital but the midwife told me to do it, skin to skin, I’m a new dad I don’t know what I’m doing.’

Admitting he is trying to ignore the negative comments, Jake said: ‘We give trolls too much of a spotlight, why would they hate on a new born baby.

‘I’m trying not to let it tarnish the moment,  I haven’t stopped smiling, my face is killing me.’

‘I feel like there should be something to stop these people but there isn’t… to wish death on an unborn baby.’

Sophie, who had joined Jake for the interview along with her son Freddie, six, said: ‘I don’t want the boys to grow up in a world where trolling is okay.’

Jake also discussed abuse he has received for giving Leo the middle name of his late brother Oliver, which the X Factor star said was the ‘natural thing to do’.

He said: ‘Oliver [late brother] was my best mate and I’ll always go on about him, the more I talk about him the memory goes on. These trolls thought it was me trying to get attention.’

Earlier this week, Jake revealed he had already received ‘nasty tweets’ from trolls saying they ‘hope his baby dies’ just days after the birth of his child.

The new dad shared his shock at the cruel messages he’s been sent about their new addition over the weekend.

Appearing on Wednesday’s episode of Lorraine, he said: ‘I was trolled for taking my top off in the hospital but the midwife told me to do it, skin to skin, I’m a new dad I don’t know what I’m doing’

Jake told Daily Star: ‘I’ve had nasty tweets from people saying things like, “I hope the baby dies”.

‘I get stupid s*** like that. If people start trolling Sophie or the baby a lot, that is something I will have to get my head around.

‘You think, “Why would they say that?”. I understand if people don’t give a s**t about my life. But they don’t have to comment on it.’

Jake added he’s often come across trolls since shooting to fame during his The X Factor stint in 2012, telling the publication he’s ‘learned to deal with it’.

And although receiving a handful of negative messages, Jake has still managed to soak up the first few days with his son.

Sharing glimpse into his new routine as a dad to Instagram over the weekend the hunk revealed that Leo has already met his doting big brother Freddie, six.

Freddie, who is Sophie’s son from a previous relationship, was seen carefully feeding his sibling in one snap before singing to him as the family played DJs in another.

Jake also shared several clips of Leo sleeping on his chest and taking in his new surroundings while Sophie looked sensational just days after the birth.
