‘That’s a dumb question!’ Jason Derulo does little to hide his indignation when asked why he sings his name at the start of his songs on The One Show
Jason Derulo called out a ‘dumb question’ during his appearance on The One Show on Tuesday evening.
The musician, 31, was asked by host Amol Rajan at the start of his video link interview why he sings ‘Jason Derulo’ at the beginning of every one of his pop songs.
‘One of our viewers got in touch with us. He genuinely wants to know why you sing your name at the start of your songs,’ Amol queried.
Sick of it! During an appearance on The One Show on Tuesday evening, Jason Derulo was asked – presumably for the umpteenth time – why he sings ‘Jason Derulo’ at the beginning of his pop songs
With little enthusiasm, Jason replied: ‘Oh God that’s a dumb question, but I’ll answer it.’
He went on to give the predictable answer, saying: ‘When I was 19 years old I was just coming out on the scene and I wanted to world to know who was singing the song. And I just started doing it and then it took off.’
Amol pressed the issue, asking if that helped him sell more music.
Jason said: ‘When I was 19-years-old I was just coming out on the scene and I wanted to world to know who was singing the song. And I just started doing it and then it took off’
Ask and ye shall receive: Speaking to the studio from his home, Jason was asked the question by host Amol Rajan and Alex Jones

‘I don’t think it works for everyone but it definitely works for me,’ Jason said.
Co-host Alex Jones was quick to move the chat onto other things – namely his baking videos and viral dances, which he has posted to TikTok across the pandemic and various lockdowns.
He explained that these videos have helped his fans get ‘more of an insight into my home life’.

The 31-year-old told the host: ‘Well, it’s a bigger hit if I sing my name at the front, you know, obviously. So, yeah, I had to bring that back.
‘And I was actually wondering why other people didn’t sing my name at the front of their songs as well, because it worked so well for me. They should sing Jason Derulo at the front of their songs.’
He previously kept up the one-man trend in his single Take You Dancing, which dropped back in July.

‘Will you sing my name right now?’ Ellen asked, as he obliged: ‘Ooh, yeah. By the way, people ask me to do this all the time, and I always tell them, “hell no.” But you know, it’s Ellen, so I’m gonna do it.’
She was pleased with the musical gift, adding: ‘I love it… I’m gonna start my show like that every single day, because that’s gonna help.’
The One Show airs on BBC One weekday evenings from 7PM.
