Jennifer Coolidge almost didn't do 'bend and snap' in Legally Blonde

Jennifer Coolidge reveals why she almost didn’t do the iconic ‘bend and snap’ in Legally Blonde – and details how the comedy changed her life

Jennifer Coolidge’s life was forever changed after she starred in the iconic 2011 comedy, Legally Blonde.

But the actress, 59, who played Paulette Bonafonté in the film, reveals she almost didn’t do the iconic ‘bend and snap’ dance that is so often quoted by fans – because she simply couldn’t get it right.

‘I didn’t really get it… I mean, look at the way Reese [Witherspoon] was doing the dance. Yeah, she would probably get the guy. I certainly wouldn’t, not with my interpretation,’ she told this week’s Stellar Magazine.

‘[Choreographer] Toni Basil was disgusted with my inability to execute it. I think she was just blown away at how bad I was.’

Luckily for fans of the comedy, Jennifer persevered and eventually got it on film.

‘[Producer] Marc Platt and the girls who wrote the film… they somehow knew. They had a vision. And I’m very impressed’ she added.

Jennifer went on to tell the magazine that she has gotten some surprising perks from starring in the beloved film.

‘I’ve reaped a lot of benefits from that movie. Legally Blonde has gotten me on flights that were full. All of a sudden, there’s a seat.

‘Because people like that movie. So they give you stuff – like the last seat’ she said.

The actress recently denied that she would step into the shoes of another iconic role – that of Samantha Jones in Sex and the City.

Kim Cattrall’s exit from the franchise left open a possible vacancy for a new actress to join the famous foursome.

Jennifer has been suggested by many on social media as the perfect person to step into Samantha Jones’ high heels in the upcoming SATC limited series.

However, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week, Coolidge revealed that she isn’t interested in the role since no one ‘can replace’ Kim.

‘I have to say I am such a Kim Cattrall fan, and I don’t see anyone being able to replace her in that part,’ Jennifer said via video chat. It was just the perfect… I don’t think you can replace her.’

Ironically, Coolidge played a small role in an episode of the series back in 2003.

She’s most famous for her role as Paulette in Legally Blonde and the sexually charged ‘MILF’, Stiffler’s mom, in American Pie.
