Jimmy Carr reveals his baby son’s name is Rockefeller as he speaks about fatherhood and says it could cause his comedy to have ‘a bit of a gear shift’

Jimmy Carr has revealed he has named his baby son Rockefeller.

The comedian, 48, secretly welcomed a son two years ago with his partner Karoline Copping, 46.

And in an interview with Radio Times, Jimmy said his son’s moniker was inspired by the American business magnate John D. Rockefeller – ‘though also with a hint of Chris Rock, the greatest ever comedian’.

Talking about fatherhood, Jimmy said: ‘It could be a bit of a gear shift, because of the kind of comedy I do.

‘But so far, I’m still telling the same jokes, I’ve got the same sense of humour. We’ll see, because I’m sure I’m going to be writing a lot of material about him. In fact, I think he might be tax-deductible.’

Jimmy’s quip to being tax-deductible was in reference to back in June 2012, when the comedian’s involvement in an alleged K2 tax avoidance scheme came to light after an investigation by The Times.

Compliment: Jimmy said he was inspired to call his son Rockefeller after the business magnate, but also after the ‘greatest comedian ever’, Chris Rock

Reflecting on it, the 8 Out Of 10 cats host said: ‘People thought, because of the type of comedy I do, that it was water off a duck’s back to me. But it wasn’t. It was really horrible. I had panic attacks’.

He added he still wakes up to panic attacks.

Jimmy confirmed he is now a dad during a stand-up comedy show at the O2 Academy Brixton earlier this month.

According to The Sun, the funnyman mentioned his son during an adoption joke, telling the audience: ‘I had to tell my little boy he’s adopted. I mean, he isn’t, but the look on his face. I said, “No, no, no, you were adopted, the new family is picking you up tomorrow.”‘

In another joke, he said: ‘We’re having a gender-reveal party for our kid but we’re going to wait until he’s 21 just to be sure. With some babies you can’t tell, is it a boy or an ugly girl?’

Jimmy was first pictured pushing a pram back in March 2020 in North London where he lives with Karoline.

The comedian has been in a relationship with Channel 5 commissioning editor Karoline since 2001 after meeting her at an audition.

The pair have not previously spoken about whether they would have children together.

In March 2017, he told Radio 4’s Desert Island discs that his girlfriend’s first impression of him was ‘one-note comedian with the eyes of a sex offender’.

The star said that even though Karoline wasn’t immediately taken with him, he was instantly smitten, saying: ‘I knew. It felt perfect.’
