The Inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris saw famous names such as Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez descend upon Capitol in a symbolic outfits.
Hitmaker Gaga wore a custom Schiaparelli gown to perform the US National Anthem, teamed with a mask and coat by Alaïa.
However, the gold dove with an olive branch in its mouth which could be seen across the chest of her coat was a clear nod to the message of peace and unity that the singer had spoken about the day before.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez chose to wear an all-white Chanel ensemble to perform This Is Your Land and America the Beautiful.
White is traditionally associated with the suffragettes movement and has since been favored by female politicians throughout Donald Trump’s administration.
Former First Ladies Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton donned hues of purple – a mix of red and blue.
The color choice made a clear diplomatic statement that the administration is united in a mission to heal a divided America.
Michelle donned a look from Sergio Hudson, while Hilary rocked suit with a matching scarf and aubergine overcoat.
Vice President Kamala’s purple ensemble was created by emerging black designer Christopher John Rogers.
The outfit choice was a nod to Shirley Chisholm, a Democrat from New York who Kamala has cited as an inspiration for her career.
Shirley was the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black major-party candidate to run for U.S. president.
First Lady Jill Biden wore an ocean blue wool tweed coat and dress by Alexandra O’Neill, who founded sustainable label Markarian in 2017.
Kamala’s stepdaughter Ella Emhoff also caught the eye of viewers thanks to her embellished plaid coat by Miu Miu over a Batsheva dress.
