It may be the first night of the Tokyo Olympics but Australian viewers were quick to chime in with mixed reviews about commentator Johanna Griggs.

The former champion swimmer hosted Channel Seven’s coverage of the opening ceremony in Japan, and chose a rather fetching dress for the occasion. 

The 47-year-old opted for a youthful frock, wearing a navy blue frock which fitted close to her body. 

It may be the first night of the Tokyo Olympics but Australian viewers were quick to chime in about commentator Johanna Griggs (third from left) and gave mixed reviews 

Her attire didn’t escape the notice of those watching at home, with one tweeting, ‘Johanna Rigg amirite?’ 

Others however noticed that the blonde stunner had already made a flub, mixed up her words when discussing clashes she hoped to see. 

Johanna made an error when she stated that she was looking forward to the battle between ‘the USA and the Americans’. 

One person tweeted: ‘Did Johanna Griggs just state she’s excited for the Americans versus USA in the pool?’

Early reviews for the TV star’s hosting efforts were mixed, with some enjoying her experience, while others were less than impressed by her voice-over commentary on the opening ceremony.

A viewer wrote:  ‘Not sure I can handle Johanna Griggs reading the prepared media spiel for three hours of the opening ceremony.’

Others were complimentary however, with someone writing: ‘We need Johanna Griggs up there front and centre first on the commentary… it’s not time to hand over to the new younger set’.
