Kate Garraway says husband had ‘severe sepsis’ and is waiting for next procedure

Kate Garraway has revealed her husband Derek Draper came down with "severe sepsis" after developing a bad kidney infection.

The 55 year old returned to her presenting duties on ITV's Good Morning Britain on 1 August, where she told her co-host Richard Madeley, 66, and viewers exactly what happened to her husband when he was rushed back to hospital several weeks ago.

Recalling the exactly date that it happened, which was on 9 July, Kate shared that they were on air when it all went down.

Kate said he had been in and out of hospital for looking at ways to tackle the damage caused by his Covid-19 battle back in 2020, but there had been nothing major medically that they had to be in A&E for until this point.

"I got a phone call from the person who was looking after him saying, 'Right, we're really worried'. I whizzed home and it just sort of went boom from there," Kate told viewers.

She continued: "We called an ambulance, went to A&E, where they said he had very severe sepsis, life-threatening sepsis. So it was really dramatic."
