Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones, 32, has taken to Instagram to share a supportive message to Tom Fletcher, 36, and Amy Dowden, 31, following their controversial departure from the BBC series last night. In view of her 201,000 followers, the Russian dancer issued a defiant statement in defence of the pair after their Couple’s Choice routine was slated by the judges on Saturday night and they lost out in the dance-off to Rhys Stephenson, 28, and Nancy Xu, 30.
Katya shared a photo of Tom and Amy sharing a hug from Sunday night’s results show.
She penned alongside it: “We’ve lost another gorgeous couple. [crying face emoji]
“It just doesn’t get any easier. Ever.
“You should be so proud of yourselves.
“@tomfletcher you are one hell of a dancer.
“@amy_dowden I won’t stop telling you what an outstanding professional you are.”
Tom and Amy seemed to appreciate Katya’s kind words, as they both reposted her Instagram Story.
McFly singer Tom also replied: “Thanks @katyajones,” alongside a red love heart emoji.
Katya was eliminated from Strictly alongside her celebrity partner Adam Peaty, 26, in week seven of the competition, finishing in ninth place.
The couple’s exit sparked similar backlash from Strictly fans, who questioned why BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, 44, and Nadiya Bychkova, 32, were saved by the public vote, despite receiving lower scores from the judges and failing to impress with their routine.
Twitter user Ian Mac fumed at the time: “Strictly has got to be a fix. Iv’e said it many times before. Every year the BBC poster boy/girl always gets through at the expense of better dancers. Dan Walker is worse than Jeremy Vine & he is still being kept in. About time they showed the voting on screen. Boo hiss!”(sic)
Strictly fan Shirleigh added: “If it’s not Dan’s last dance next week, I’m calling fix. There’s no way he is at the same standard (or better) than Rose, John, AJ, Tom and Tilly. It still annoys me Shirley Ballas scored him higher than Rose yesterday! #Strictly.”

Tom and Amy’s dance-off with Rhys and Nancy split the judges, as Head Judge Shirley Ballas voted to save Tom and Amy, while Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and guest judge Cynthia Erivo all voted to save the CBBC presenter.
The panel came under fire from viewers due to the decision, as fans claimed Tom and Amy were “under marked”.
The pair received low scores for their routine to the Les Miserables song On My Own during Musicals Week, while Tom was told by the judges that he didn’t show his emotions enough during the routine.
Tom’s McFly bandmate and former Strictly winner Harry Judd was quick to hit out at the judges for being “harsh” on his pal.
“7!?!? Come off it,” Harry penned on Twitter.
Strictly viewer Hannah also fumed: “I don’t think Tom deserves to be in the dance off. The comments last night were silly about “crying” really? #strictly.”
Amy Forrester agreed: “So @TomFletcher was marked down for not crying??? It’s Strictly Come Dancing not Strictly Come Crying!! Your dance was beautiful and incredibly emotive Tom…hugely underscored.”
ZLou added: “Wtf!! Is wrong with strictly? Tom shouldn’t have left, he was way better than Rhys and Dan. This is so not right and total fix.”
