Killers of the Flower Moon is an American epic Western crime drama film directed by Scorsese, with Leonardo serving as an executive producer.
The film received a rapturous nine-minute standing ovation when it premiered at Cannes on Saturday night.
A wide array of film critics have already given the Leonardo led movie five stars across the board, with one even hailing it as the best of its genre.
Words like ‘searing and ‘masterpiece’ were bandied about by critics who managed to get their hands on a ticket to the first screening.
IndieWire said DiCaprio gives ‘his best-ever performance’, while The Guardian awarded five stars for a ‘remarkable epic about the bloody birth of America’.
The upcoming movie is based on the best-selling 2017 non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann.
It revolves around a series of Oklahoma murders in the 1920s, committed after oil was discovered on tribal land.
The official synopsis reads: ‘At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight.
In good company: Amongst those who left the bash at the same time included British model Neelam Gill, 28, and Natasha

‘The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder.
‘Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone) Killers of the Flower Moon is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal.’
Leonardo is joined by an all-star cast, which includes Oscar winner Brendan Fraser, 54, John Lithgow, 77, and Jesse Plemons, 35, while Lily Gladstone, 36, plays his on-screen love interest Mollie Kyle.
The film’s official trailer was released earlier this week, and introduces viewers to Leo’s character Ernest as he delves into the history of the Osage nation, explaining that greed attracted ‘hungry wolves’ to the area.
‘Can you find the wolves in this picture?’ he asks in the 90-second clip, while flashes dramatic snippets of violence and families being torn apart flash up on screen.
It is set to debut in limited theatres on October 6, with a wide release scheduled for October 20.
The highly-anticipated Western has a run-time of three hours and 26 minutes and will be available to stream on Apple TV+ after its release.
