Kelly Macdonald, 45, stars as DCI Joanne Davidson in BBC’s hit show Line of Duty. The Scottish native has admitted the terminology used in the show was a “shock” to her when she read the script for the first time. The actress also admitted she didn’t immediately accept her new role.
She spilled: “I did have to think about it. The shock, really, was when I read the first episode.
“Suddenly it was just, ‘Oh, there’s a massive long stream of dialogue about stuff I’ve never heard of’.
“I did have to get over that obstacle in my mind, because I knew that was going to be quite challenging,” she added to The Mirror.
The gritty drama consists of police acronyms, such as CHIS, OCG, and MIT and ARU.
Fans of the show, including BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker, have said they have had to Google the terms in order to understand.
In view of his 706,000 Twitter followers, Dan shared a thread of tweets detailing what the acronyms meant.
His first tweet read: “We’re going to have to print these off.
“CHIS (covert human intelligence source) MIT (murder investigation team) PNC (police national computer) TA (tactical advisor) #Acronyms #LineOfDuty #LineofDuty6.”
Last week, viewers witnessed Kelly’s character being grilled by AC-12 over her suspicious activity.
She was charged and questioned further but went on to be released.
Kelly said landing a role in Line Of Duty is the “dream job”.
She told The Independent: “It feels a bit like being the new Bond or something. Or maybe Doctor Who is comparable.”

The mother-of-two added she loves the speculation and theories surrounding the gripping series.
“That’s the fun of it and it’s so glorious that it comes once a week and people have to wait and so they talk about it,” she said.
“I have close friends who have not been interested in my work before, and now they’re suddenly asking if I’m [the corrupt high-ranking officer]‘H’.”
What has Kelly starred in before?
The actress played the role of Diane in Trainspotting in 1996.
She has since gone on to appear in Gosford Park, Intermission, Nanny McPhee, Boardwalk Empire and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Line Of Duty continues Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
