Lisa Kudrow shares a sweet selfie with her Friends pal David Schwimmer… as fans discover a hilarious continuity error with her character Phoebe
Lisa Kudrow was still feeling the nostalgia after Thursday’s release of the highly anticipated Friends Reunion when she caught up with her old friend David Schwimmer in a selfie.
The 57-year-old film and television actress shared a cute photo of herself and Schwimmer, 54, leaning their heads together and beaming for the camera.
The catch-up session comes just as Friends fans on social media spotted a humorous continuity error in which Lisa seemed to play double versions of her iconic character Phoebe.
Old friends: Lisa Kudrow, 57, and David Schwimmer, 54, reunited in a sweet Instagram selfie from Thursday after the Friends reunion. ‘Tonight…. That’s how long we waited to get together,’ she wrote
Lisa was dressed in a dark red top in the photo and went mostly makeup free while wearing black plastic-frame glasses.
David stuck to a solid black shirt and sported some salt-and-pepper stubble while resting his hand on the actress’ shoulder.
‘Tonight…. That’s how long we waited to get together,’ Lisa wrote, referencing Thursday’s release of the Friends reunion.
The photo was a hit with some of their other cast mates, including Courteney Cox, who gushed in the comments, ‘Awww I love you guy!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.’
Eagle-eyed: Earlier on Thursday, one Friends fan noticed a continuity error in the pilot episode after Phoebe says, ‘Oh, I just pulled out four eyelashes. That can’t be good’
Jennifer Aniston was also touched by the sweet display.
‘Love you two so much! ❤️,’ she wrote.
While the Friends cast was focusing on their friendships following their reunion taping, other fans were obsessively picking over the series, which is now available to stream on HBO Max, which also released the reunion.
Twitter user Jarrett Wieselman, who does social media promotion for Netflix, noticed that Lisa had an eerie twin in a Friends scene taken from the pilot episode, known as The One Where Monica Gets A Roommate.
In the episode, the whole group congregates up in Monica’s apartment as she prepares for a date with Paul the Wine Guy, who arrives at the door and comes in for a seat while they gawk at him.
Phoebe, who’s standing behind his back with a cup of coffee, looks down at her hand while holding a coffee in the other and says, ‘Oh, I just pulled out four eyelashes. That can’t be good.’
Seeing double: Paul the Wine Guy turns around from the couch to look at her — but Phoebe’s also in that shot, now sitting on a chair next to him, even as he’s supposed to be looking back at her
Good catch: ‘I never noticed the continuity error in the #Friends pilot that makes it look like Phoebe is reacting to herself (or Ursula is secretly there…),’ wrote the user

‘Ah, the magic of 16:9 remasters which show unexpected flaws,’ replied one Twitter user.
The version of Friends showing on HBO Max is presented in a 16:9 aspect ration for a wider, more rectangular picture, while the version originally broadcast would have been a more square picture.
New aspect ratio: The version of Friends showing on HBO Max is presented in a 16:9 aspect ration for a wider, more rectangular picture, while the version originally broadcast would have been a more square picture
New mistake: Another person said the mistake likely wasn’t visible on the original TV broadcast in a squarer aspect ratio, which would have cut off the side where Lisa was visible
Still a problem: One reply suggested it was still as mistake, as Lisa shouldn’t have been anywhere near that shot since she wasn’t in it
Other options: The previous user pointed out that that wasn’t necessarily the case, as editors could just use another take where she wasn’t present
Another user said the clip was ‘Not much of an error as you would not have seen this in the original airing. This is a prime example of why content should remain in its original aspect ratio and not opened up just to fill the whole TV.’
But another fan replied, ‘It’s still a production error since Lisa should’ve been nowhere near that shot. I can’t imagine her sitting there like, “Am I out of the shot? Good. I’ll just sit her in costume sipping from this prop mug.”
The previous user pointed out that that wasn’t necessarily the case, as ‘They can pull a shot in editing from other takes and other scenes and it wouldn’t matter if Lisa was there or not in the editing of the episode.’
When the aspect ratio was changed for the streaming version, it’s likely that part of the picture at the top and bottom was cut off, while some missing portion of the picture on the sides was re-added from the original film negatives.
Phoebe likely wasn’t seen on the original TV broadcast since she was on the far side of the screen, which would have originally been cut off.
Not alone: Another fan pointed out that Buffy The Vampire Slayer had similar issues after the aspect ratio was changed during remastering, as ‘crew members’ could sometimes be seen
Having a laugh: Another person just joked, ‘Yep that’s definitely Ursula,’ referring to Phoebe’s twin sister
Another fan pointed out that Buffy The Vampire Slayer had similar issues after the aspect ratio was changed during remastering, as ‘crew members’ could sometimes be seen off to the sides.
‘That’s Phoebe haunting them,’ joked another person. ‘Ghosts exist outside of time. I love it, but Friends might have the worst editing of any TV show ever.’
Another person just joked, ‘Yep that’s definitely Ursula,’ referring to the character Lisa played on Mad About You, which later crossed over into Friends and became Phoebe’s identical twin sister.
