Speaking about her new look with heat magazine, Lorraine said: ‘I’ve never been blonde in my life, so this is a big deal for me. I’m so interested to see what I look like with blonde hair, and I’ve never had giant nails, either.’

She added: ‘I love how Adele comes every five years, dominates the showbiz agenda, and then p***es off again and has her life! I think it’s so brilliant, I really do.

‘I love her, so this is a homage to her. I’m paying tribute to the goddess that is Adele. I just hope she doesn’t mind a woman of my age being her!’

Lorraine then discussed her makeover during Tuesday’s episode of her eponymous ITV show, musing: ‘We had such fun doing that, you know where you need cheering up sometimes. I thought this is fantastic, what a great excuse to play dress up!’

Last year, Lorraine admitted she celebrated the news she was getting a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours by getting ‘extremely drunk’.

The veteran TV host – who was made an OBE nine years ago – giggled as she claimed the honour is ‘a great excuse’ to get ‘more drunk’ than she would have done.

Piers Morgan said at the time: ‘You’ve been promoted from an OBE to a CBE. The next promotion is Dame Lorraine!’

Lorraine responded: ‘It’s lovely. It’s a great excuse. I got extremely drunk on Friday night. I just thought: “I probably would have done anyway” but I got even more so!’

The star said she felt ‘humbled’ to be recognised in the list. Clearly thrilled with the accolade, Lorraine told Hello!: ‘This is such an unexpected honour.

‘I’m very grateful and humbled – particularly as I’m in far more deserving company. All of those frontline workers are true heroes.’

Back in 2012, The ITV presenter was awarded an OBE by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, during her Diamond Jubilee.
