EXCLUSIVE ‘I can’t walk up the stairs without panting’: Pregnant Louise Thompson reveals she feels ‘really heavy’ after gaining over a stone and says her ‘muscular body and fine-tuned diet has gone out the window’
Louise Thompson feels ‘really heavy’ after gaining over a stone and says her ‘muscular body and fine-tuned diet has gone out the window.’
The Made In Chelsea star, 31, who’s expecting her first baby with personal trainer fiancé Ryan Libbey, 31, confessed to struggling with the physical changes since falling pregnant, after identifying with being ‘fit’ and maintaining a healthy eating regime for the last four years.
In an exclusive interview, the mother-to-be said she no longer feels ‘in control’ of her own body due to going from being able to physically see her muscles to now suffering from loss of breath when she walks up the stairs.
‘My identity was wrapped up in being fit’: Louise Thompson feels ‘really heavy’ after gaining over a stone and says her ‘muscular body and fine-tuned diet has gone out the window’
Louise told MailOnline: ‘I already feel really heavy, which is fine because it’s part of the process but I’ve put on probably a stone and a half and I don’t mind the weight gain – it’s the actual discomfort of carrying around a new body.
‘I’m 5ft so there’s really no space for it to go. I have such a small abdomen, if I eat and now lockdown has lifted I keep going for three course meals, add in an enormous uterus and a baby, Ryan looks at me and says “Louise needs to go home” – he can see I suddenly go quiet and breathing like I’m having a panic attack.
‘It’s hard because a lot of my identity was wrapped up in being really fit. I dedicated four years to it and I really loved the person I had become because I was working out 3-4 times a week and I was so light on my feet and I could basically do anything.
‘I have so much empathy for people that even carry a bit more weight because it’s harder, life is actually harder. At the beginning I thought I would be an Olympian that carries on training throughout my entire pregnancy and I thought I’d be really stoic about it but I didn’t realise how fit I was before until this hit me.’

Louise, who’s over six months pregnant, overhauled her lifestyle four years ago when she ditched partying for the gym, in a move encouraged by her fitness guru partner, Ryan.
She’s since launched health and fitness brand Trtle, and has become known for her toned physique, which she often displays to her 1.2million followers on Instagram.
During her pregnancy, Louise admits her once untouchable stamina has faltered, and after years of monitoring her sugar intake, she’s finally given into her urges.
She said: ‘Whatever happens afterwards I’ll be so grateful for having a fit and able body. It sounds ridiculous but I don’t feel like I’m fully in control of my body anymore, I actually can’t bend over properly and touch my toes, I never thought that would be something I couldn’t do.
‘I can’t walk up the stairs without panting and feeling like I’ve got a lump in my lung. I could literally see every muscle in my body and everything I would eat before, I could tell you what impact it had on my body and what I was good at digesting and what kind of food would help me build muscle.
‘Everything was quite fine-tuned – and now everything has basically gone out the window. Hormones meant I was craving so much sugar and I have basically given into everything. I was doing a few workouts a week for four months but suddenly when I got to 17 weeks I was like wow, now I really feel pregnant.’

Louise is an ambassador for the UK’s largest pet insurance provider Petplan, who are hosting their second award ceremony this month to honour the animals that have change their owner’s lives for the better.
The Pet Awards, that features a range of categories such as Hero Pet of the Year and Rescue Pet of the Year, received over 7,000 entries in 2020, and there’s still the chance to nominate your furry friend for this year’s event.
Entries, which can be submitted via the Petplan website, close on Friday, August 6, with finalists and winners being announced the last week of this month.
Louise explained: ‘Pet insurance is so important, I learned that mistake the hard way when I didn’t have any in the beginning. I am a responsible dog owner and any signs of anything that was potentially wrong, I would go straight to the vets and the bills were tallying up.
‘When Petplan got in touch about wanting to collaborate on a bigger project, I was really keen because I love their ethos. People have until Friday, which is August 6, to enter The Pet Awards and it’s just such a lovely event.
‘It gives people the chance to enter something for free and pet owners the chance to give back by being able to win prizes. There are different categories, including one for new pets that have adopted into new families.’
