Love Island fans were left conflicted – and cringing – on Thursday night after Hugo Hammond made it clear to Sharon Gaffka there was nothing romantic between them.
The pair, who have put their recent argument regarding ‘fake girls’ aside, had a heart-to-heart during the show, causing fans to flood to Twitter with their comments, with one remarking their ‘heart broke’ for Sharon.
Hugo, 24, who is currently in a friendship couple with Sharon, 25, told her: ‘If I’m completely honest with you I can’t see there being anything romantic between you and me because I see you as a little sister in here now.

‘And I think you’re amazing and I want you to find someone that’s 100 per cent you, and you definitely deserve that.’
The teacher continued frankly: ‘I don’t see you in that way and I don’t think I ever could. As much as friendship couples are great and we have fun, it serves a purpose for the time being, but I don’t want it to be my whole experience. I want to share this with someone.’
Civil servant Sharon said: ‘I don’t want it to be your whole experience’ to which Hugo responded ‘and vice versa.’

Deep chat: The pair, who have put their recent argument regarding ‘fake girls’ aside, had a heart-to-heart that caused fans to flood to Twitter
Nodding in agreement to the heartfelt speech, Sharon kept a poker face while she was ‘sister zoned’ by the PE teacher.
Fans expressed their views on the awkward chat, with many either team Hugo, team Sharon, or in the middle.
‘I actually like Hugo and Sharon together my heart broke for her when he said she’s like his “little sister”‘ someone wrote.
Another avid viewer voiced their opinion, showing support for Hugo: ‘You can tell Hugo is there for all the right reasons and the only genuine one there. He could just pretend with Sharon to stay in the villa’.
A Love Island fan called Hugo ‘brutal’, feeling sorry for ‘poor Sharon’.
The sister-zoning comes as Hugo came close to kissing new bombshell AJ on the terrace on Thursday, only for him to tell her he didn’t want to make a move so soon.
Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
