Madonna, 63, SLAMS Instagram for taking down post of her exposed nipple… and compares ‘sexist’ policy to the ‘lies’ told about Native Americans on Thanksgiving

  • Madonna has slammed Instagram for taking down explicit portraits that were shared to her account on Wednesday night
  • In a slideshow of racy shots, the 63-year-old singer posed on a bed in a pair of fishnets with one of her breasts exposed
  • On Thursday, Madonna reposted edited versions of the portraits and branded Instagram’s strict guidelines around nudity as ‘sexist’
  • She claims the photos were removed from the platform ‘without warning or notification’ and that she finds the censorship pertaining to the female nipple ‘astounding’
  • She went as far as to compare the engrained belief that the female nipple is ‘sexual’ to that of the long-standing ‘lies’ told at Thanksgiving about the Pilgrims’ treatment of the Native Americans
  • Instagram’s community guidelines explicitly state that nudity is not allowed and that breastfeeding, acts of protest, and health-related images of the female nipple are among the only exceptions to the rule

Madonna has reposted edited versions of the explicit, nipple-baring portraits shared to her Instagram account this week after they were taken down for violating community guidelines.

In a lengthy caption, the hitmaker, 63, branded the social media platform’s strict nudity policies as ‘sexist’ and compared the unwavering social stigma around the female nipple to that of the ‘lies’ told about the Pilgrims’ ‘peaceful’ treatment of Native Americans at Thanksgiving.

‘I’m reposting photographs Instagram took down without warning or notification….. The reason they gave my management that does not handle my account was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed,’ she began.

‘It is still astounding to me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman’s body to be shown except a nipple. As if that is the only part of a woman’s anatomy that could be sexualized. The nipple that nourishes the baby!

‘Can’t a mans nipple be experienced as erotic ??!! And what about a woman’s a** which is never censored anywhere.

‘Giving thanks that I have managed to maintain my sanity through four decades of censorship…… sexism……ageism and misogyny.

‘Perfectly timed with the lies we have been raised to believe about the pilgrims peacefully breaking bread with the Native American Indians when they landed on Plymouth Rock! God bless America,’ concluded the songwriter before adding the hashtag ‘#artistsareheretodisturbthepeace’

Instagram’s official Community Guidelines explicitly state that nudity is not allowed on the platform and that the female nipple is included under that umbrella.

Opposition: The hitmaker, 63, branded the social media platform’s strict nudity policies as ‘sexist,’ denounced the over-sexualization of the female nipple, and compared the rhetoric to that of the ‘lies’ told about the Pilgrims’ ‘peaceful’ treatment of Native Americans at Thanksgiving

There are exceptions to the rule such as ‘photos in the context of breastfeeding, birth giving and after-birth moments, health-related situations (for example, post-mastectomy, breast cancer awareness or gender confirmation surgery) or an act of protest are allowed.’

Nudity shown in paintings and sculptures is also allowed.

When Madonna shared the unedited racy snaps to Instagram on Wednesday evening, she caused shockwaves across social media, even going as far as to alarm her devout fanbase.

In the series of images taken on a bed, the sexagenarian mother-of-six wore lingerie while positioning herself in a number of compromising snaps, including images showing her bare breast and her fishnet-clad bottom.

Her astounded fans swiftly flooded the comment section, with a majority in shock over the ‘porn’ esque shots, while others praised the star for her daring post, which comes after courting further controversy on the site.

Madonna was seen showing off her breasts in a bondage-inspired bra with cut outs in the body to best showcase her ample cleavage. She put her pert behind on display while kneeling before the bed with her thong-clad derriere front and center and later bending over to show even more flesh.

A further image saw the Like A Virgin hitmaker lose her top altogether, while using a duvet to partially cover her eye-popping cleavage but still baring much of her naked breast.

They approve! Many fans showed their support for Madonna in the comments section

This is not the first time Madonna has sparked controversy over her photos.

Over the weekend, she shared photos of herself which included one of photographer Steven Klein holding a knife to her throat and a caption which revealed her staff worked for free on her recent project.

A flood of comments came from fans, who blasted the multimillionaire for permitting unpaid labour, while others were left furious at her braided hairstyle – accusing the star of cultural appropriation – and some insisted she was glorifying violence.

In the images, Madonna was seen holding up a copy of the new photographic creation for V Magazine, as Klein holds a knife to her chin.

Poetic: On her Instagram Stories, she shared more snaps from the sexy shoot along with a quote from poet Mary Oliver

Madonna, born Madonna Louise Ciccone, appears to be in a frozen state, standing with her eyes closed and her hands placed on the V Magazine cover, which came under fire for its depiction of Madonna recreating Marilyn Monroe’s death.

The four different covers and inside photos in the publication’s new issue #133 were created by Madonna and Klein as an homage to Marilyn Monroe’s very last photoshoot, Bert Stern’s The Last Sitting (1962).

In the issue, she is seen posing in similar positions to Monroe, who was photographed for the shoot six weeks before she tragically died nearly 60 years ago.

Deep: ‘Beauty without purpose is beauty without virtue but all beautiful things have this function – to excite the viewers toward sublime thought. Glory to the world, that good teacher,’ the quote goes

NSFW: Madonna put her cleavage on display as she kicked a leg over the sheets

One of her homage photos appears to replicate the actress’ bedroom where she was found dead from an overdose of pills. Plus, Madonna has her platinum tresses styled like Monroe from her heyday in 1940s and 50s.

Los Angeles police concluded her death was ’caused by a self-administered overdose of sedative drugs and that the mode of death is probable suicide.’

With those details in mind, some critics on social media have called out Madonna for glamorizing suicide with her homage of photos.

‘The censoring that’s going on in the world right now, that’s pretty frightening. No one’s allowed to speak their mind right now. No one’s allowed to say what they really think about things for fear of being canceled,’ she declared.

Contemplative: The beauty cuddled her pillow with a contemplative expression on her face

‘Glory to the world’: She titillated fans with an array of sexy shots

‘In cancel culture, disturbing the peace is probably an act of treason. The thing is the quieter you get, the more fearful you get, the more dangerous anything is. We’re giving it power by shutting the f**k up completely.’

For his part, Klein explained the meaning behind the Monroe homage, sharing: ‘We were not interested in recreating the images exactly but more importantly, we wanted to explore the relationship between photographer and subject. Both the friendship and the artistic process, and how art can imitate life and vice versa.’

He also expressed his hope to have ‘done justice to the great work of Bert Stern and Marilyn Monroe.’
