MAFS UK Matt ‘slid into’ Marilyse’s DMs before his series aired

Matt Murray and Marilyse Corrigan may have signed up to find love on Married at First Sight UK separately, but their love story had unknowingly started before he had even appeared on the show.

Speaking about how they first met, Matt, 32, has revealed to OK! that he slid into Marilyse's DMs before his time on the show – which saw him partner up with Gemma Rose.

"The night before my first episode was due to air in August, I slid into Marilyse’s DMs with a voice note message on Instagram," he told us.

"It said, 'Right, you’ve been through this. What am I in for?' And then we started exchanging nice voice notes every day."

Matt admitted he was the one who suggested to meet up after chatting over text, but the barber confessed there was "no romance" during their first face-to-face encounter.

"It was just a case of grabbing a bite to eat at Ask Italian. Maz does online coaching and I’m a qualified PT, so I wanted to branch into what she does," he shared.

Marilyse, 38, added: "It was more of a business meeting," before Matt replied: "I always call it the 'first date she didn’t know was a date.'"

But the pair soon fell for each other after going away together on holiday despite thinking they were "just friends".

"We even ended up going on holiday together, but in our heads, we were just friends. When we got back though, I started to miss him," Marilyse shared.

"A few weeks later, we were halfway through a conversation on the phone when he said, 'I do quite fancy you.' I wasn’t expecting it."

When Marilyse signed up to marry a stranger, her show husband turned out to be Franky Spencer, 48, while Matt was matched up with Gemma Rose.

Matt and Gemma, 30, at first seemed to be the perfect match, but things soon turned sour as barber Matt was put off by Gemma's overtly sexual remarks on their wedding day and honeymoon.

Matt went on to pursue his feelings for Whitney Hughes – who was married to Duka Cav, 31.

After the pair went behind their partners' backs on the programme, they then requested that they be able to continue the experiment together.

But when the experiment ended, the couple sadly parted ways, with Whitney, also 31, telling OK!: "I don’t regret how I carried myself but I do really regret being with Matthew.

"I think I would have been better off going home – but I ran with my feelings, so it is what it is!"
