Maisie Smith has detailed her struggles with body image ‘hatred’ and admitted she puts a lot of pressure on herself to look a certain way.

The 20-year-old EastEnders star, whose last scenes as Tiffany Butcher played out earlier this week, recalled how competing in Strictly Come Dancing last year was a ‘game-changer’ when it came to ‘facing my fears straight on.’

Drawing on comparisons to her Albert Square character, who got lip fillers as a result of appearance insecurities, Maisie admitted that she hates her legs and cellulite – and would wear trousers all summer as a result.

‘I feel pressure all the time. I’ve experienced a lot of body image hatred, not from anyone else, but from me. I put a lot of pressure on myself to look a certain way,’ she told The Sun.

Exercise is a vital part of Maisie’s routine, as she revealed she works out every day for her mental health.

The Essex native also commented on how she is feeling more confident but still has a long way to go as she navigates ‘trying to learn to love myself.’

Another topic that inevitably rose during the interview was Maisie’s EastEnders exit, which didn’t include killing off her character who she has portrayed since 2008, leaving the door open for a prospect return.

Despite acknowledging the ‘big decision’ that came with leaving, she said: ‘I turned 20 and I thought: ‘This is a new chapter of my life, there’s no better time than right now to explore another adventure.”

The TV star also quipped that this is the first time in her life she’s been unemployed – but has set her sights on Hollywood as a future endeavour.

Last year, Maisie competed in the 18th series of Strictly Come Dancing and reached the final.

‘It might have only been only 10 weeks of my life, but I’ve never felt happiness like it,’ she gushed of the experience.

She was highly complimentary of her EastEnders co-star and Strictly sensation Rose-Ayling Ellis, who lifted the glitterball on Saturday with professional partner Giovanni Pernice.

Rose, according to Maisie, was rightfully deserving of attention and success and does not have a bad bone in her body.
