‘I had no idea how bad I actually was’: Michelle Heaton posts a heartbreaking throwback of her ‘sad, sick and very frightened’ first day in rehab – as she marks two years of sobriety
Michelle Heaton has posted a heartbreaking throwback Thursday of her first day in rehab two years ago.
The Liberty X singer, 43, previously revealed she did not go for a day without alcohol for three years before she checked into rehab in April 2021.
She continues to follow the 12-Step Programme and attends AA meetings.
Michelle checked into The Priory rehab clinic after celebrity friends including close pal Katie Price staged an intervention and paid for her to get treatment.
The singer shared a picture of herself outside the clinic, describing herself as ‘sad, sick, and very frightened’.

She wrote: ‘#tbt 2 years ago today I arrived on the steps of the @priorygroup.
‘Bewildered, confused, sad, sick and very frightened. That day I took my last drink.
‘Therefore my sobriety date is tomorrow .. please god.It feels like a lifetime ago and in someways like it was yesterday.
‘I can still remember heading into there wanting to come out a controlled drinker. A normal drinker. I had no idea how bad i actually was, and that that day would be my last day of drinking.
‘As long as I continue to do my meetings, step program and work on myself I don’t ever need to go back.

In December the singer shared some candid throwback pictures of herself in hospital amid her battle with addiction in a bid to raise awareness and help others.
The singer shared snaps showing herself with a bruised face after ‘collapsing in active addiction,’ before encouraging her followers to reach out to those who might be suffering to help them turn their lives around.

‘Two years ago this was me… I was admitted to hospital, not for the first or the last time. I had collapsed in active addiction,’ her post began.
‘I left the hospital the next day, I walked over to the off-licence and bought more vodka.
‘Seems insane? It is! But it was the only way I knew how to live. So I thought.
‘I swore to my peers, family and doctors I was on the mend. I meant it. But my mind of an addict had a different plan.’
Michelle then encouraged her followers to reach out to others who might be suffering.
‘New year is a time we all make goals, and resolutions. Why don’t you make your goal to reach out to someone like me?’ she said.
‘I turned it down so many times, so don’t be discouraged if they say no. The day will come when they’ve just had enough.’
She added: ‘If you or anyone you know is struggling help is out there. Visit www.aa.org there is a solution… one day at a time your life can be filled with hope faith & courage. ❤️’

In April, the singer admitted that she had ‘given up on life’ before seeking treatment with a 28-day stay in rehab the year prior.
Speaking to Closer magazine, the mum of two said the worst part about her alcoholism was what she put her husband Hugh Hanley and their two children Faith, 10, and AJ, eight, through.
‘I’d given up on life,’ she told the magazine, explaining: ‘At my lowest point, I’d wake up in the morning and pray for someone to help me or I just wanted to die.’
‘I didn’t care about losing my family or friends, it was only about where the next drink was coming from. My skin was grey, I was exhausted and my body was completely unrecognisable and bloated.’
She has completely turned her life around and now keeps her followers up to date with her training at the gym.
And in January she appeared on Dancing On Ice, coming in tenth place.
