Netflix viewers are loving ‘wholesome’ new romcom – with fans claiming ‘it ticks all the boxes’

An Australian romantic comedy film recently released on Netflix has left fans falling head over heels for its ‘wholesome’ plot and ‘uncomplicated’ characters. 

Love Is In The Air was released on streaming platform Netflix on September 28, which is directed by Adrian Powers and produced by Steve Jaggi, Kylie Pascoe and Kelly Son Hing. 

The film stars Kylie Minogue’s ex Joshua Sasse, Roy Billing and leading lady, singer-songwriter Delta Goodrem. 

Delta Goodrem plays Dana Randall, a fiercely independent pilot for an air service, Fullerton Airways, situated in Far North Queensland, Australia. 

When London based ITCM Financial representative William (Joshua Sasse) is sent to Fullerton Airways to review the organisation’s financials, Dana welcomes him, aware that they rely heavily on his company’s subsidies.

As they spend more time together, William falls for Dana and the feeling appears mutual – that is, until she accidentally discovers his true purpose at Fullerton. 

According to Tudum – Netflix’s official fandom site – Love Is in the Air is Delta Goodrem’s first lead role in a feature film since 2005, having previously starred in Hating Alison Ashley. 

The cinematic Love is in the Air was filmed in in the Whitsundays Islands, Australia, as it follows the adventures of pilot Dana as she flies over the breath-taking Great Barrier Reef. 

Viewers who found the romantic comedy comforting to watch have left rave reviews on American film review site Rotten Tomatoes, with many praising its ‘simple’ plot and ‘charming’ characters. 

One reviewer said: ‘So romantic, absolutely loved watching this with my mom,’ while another wrote: ‘Good wholesome cheesy chick flick! What’s not to love.’

One fan left a beaming five-star review, writing: ‘I loved the movie. The scenery was gorgeous and it was a lighthearted watch. Enjoyed it very much.’

Another, leaving four stars, wrote: Typically predictable light romantic movie, and I loved it! The actors made the movie. They all connected and had chemistry together.’

Impressed with the romcom’s chosen filming location, one fan said, ‘Filmed in the Whitsundays. Charming. Beautiful,’ while another wrote, ‘As a former Queenslander, I thoroughly enjoyed this easy to watch romantic movie.

‘Sometimes what hits the spot is just a good, basic, uncomplicated movie in a beautiful location. This ticked all the boxes of what I was looking for today.’

Some other viewers, meanwhile, were not left in such high spirits as they found the film too ‘simple’ for their tastes. 

One reviewer, who rated the film three out of five stars, said: ‘The storyline is simple. The ending is expected.’ 

Another person, giving one and a half stars, wrote: ‘Meh, it passed the time. Sort of. This is basically a movie length version of Home and Away…’ 

Netflix recently announced it would be adding one of the ‘best horror movies of the year’ to its roster as one of its October additions to the platform.

Australian-produced Talk To Me, directed by debutant twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, is due to land on the site on October 26.

Despite being first screened in 2022 at the Adelaide Film Festival, its cinema release became hotly anticipated as bidders fought over the right to distribute it, leading to its global debut on July 28.
