It reads: ‘With engaging human stories anchoring the action, is one kaiju movie that remains truly compelling between the scenes of mass destruction’.

Forbes dubbed the movie ‘One Of 2023’s Greatest Films’, while The New York Times noted ‘Japan’s famous monster franchise returns with an appetite for destruction but also a notably sober outlook.’

Verge said ‘as much of a throwback as the movie is, it’s one worthy of standing alongside the original as a seminal piece of the Toho canon’, while Den Of Geek shared: ‘Godzilla Minus One remains convinced that humans working together are even stronger and gives us compelling, fully drawn human characters to make us believe it.’

The movie is directed by Takahi Yamazaki – who has been at the helm of movies like The Eternal Zero and Dragon Quest: Your Story.

He recently explained that the franchise served as his inspiration to get into filmmaking at that even though it has taken 50 years, he

He told Godzilla.com: ‘The whole fun was making a Godzilla movie! There is nothing more fun than making a Godzilla movie.

‘For me, as soon as I saw my first kaiju film as a kid and I realized that there was such a thing as making kaiju films, I knew where my life would lead.

‘It’s been over 50 years on that path and I do feel it has been satisfied. I gave a lot. So perhaps I gave more than a little piece of myself. (Laughs) I gave a large part of myself.

‘I have a big hole in my heart and it’s like ‘Oh. It’s people who have made Godzilla movies who are left with this feeling.

‘While I film I don’t anticipate any of this, but after the movie is done, when it’s out in the world, I feel this little empty place.

He said: ‘For me, I gave my soul to this movie.

‘When I was cast, I was 28 years old. I’m 30 right now.

‘I’ve been an actor for over 20 years and with this role, I really wanted to give my soul to the movie but also give it my all to battle Godzilla and to capture that.
