Peter Kay's Car Share was a huge hit with British telly watchers, pulling in more than six million viewers for the finale back in 2018. Now, three years on, the 48 year old comedian has ignited fans' hopes by hinting that he "might" bring the show back for a one-off special.

The comedy legend stepped away from the limelight a few years back, citing "unforeseen family circumstances," but made a brief comeback this weekend (Saturday 7 August) putting on two live shows at the Manchester Apollo.

The shows were intended to help raise money for an old family friend whose daughter is being treated for aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma multiforme. Peter took questions from the heaving audiences, including one about whether he would ever do a Christmas special of his hit sitcom, Car Share.

The entire arena was delighted to hear Peter say he "might do" before revealing that the series was his "favourite of all."

He said: “Of all the things I’ve ever done, that’s my favourite of all. I love being with Sian [Gibson] and we had a good laugh.

However, he went on to point out that filming in a car with COVID restrictions in place would be “a lot of work”.

In Car Share, Peter plays supermarket assistant manager John and Sian stars alongside him as promotions rep Kayleigh. The show followed their friendship and romance as they shared a car to and from work while singing along to the radio – simple, yet effective.

Speaking to fans on stage at his first gig in four years, Peter also revealed that he'd written two new episodes of Max and Paddy – the sitcom he starred in with Paddy McGuinness.

He added that he loved making that series, explaining that "it was one of the best times."

Peter answered various questions from the audience during the live performances which completely sold out in less that 30 minutes.

The shows were in aid of Laura Nuttall, a 20 year old who is currently battling a rare form of cancer.

Laura's sister Grace introduced Peter, saying that she and her family were grateful to the audience for "potentially saving Laura's life"

Laura, who was in the audience, was initially given 12 to 18 months to live when she was diagnosed at 18. However, thanks to fundraising, she was able to raise enough for life-saving immunotherapy treatment in Germany.
